Position Summary: The Sawmill Debarker is responsible for removing the bark from logs before they are processed into lumber. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring that logs are clean and suitable for further processing, maintaining quality standards, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the sawmill operations.
Primary Duties:
- Operate debarking machinery to remove bark from logs, ensuring minimal damage to the wood.
- Inspect logs before and after debarking to ensure they meet quality standards; report any issues to the Sawmill Supervisor.
- Perform routine maintenance on debarking equipment to ensure optimal performance and reduce downtime; report any mechanical issues promptly.
- Assist in the handling and movement of logs, including loading and unloading, as needed.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines; participate in safety training and inspections to maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain accurate records of debarked logs, including quantities and any quality issues observed during the process.
- Work closely with other sawmill team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Required Skills:
- Previous experience in a sawmill or lumber processing environment is an advantage.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to lift heavy objects
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and exposure to noise.
