Position Summary: The Sawmill Lead Millwright is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, repair, and optimization of mechanical systems and equipment within the sawmill operations. This role involves supervising a team of millwrights while ensuring all equipment functions safely and efficiently to support continuous production. The Lead Millwright is a key player in maintaining the overall uptime and reliability of machinery and systems in the sawmill.
Primary Duties:
- Lead, mentor, and train a team of millwrights and maintenance staff. Assign tasks, prioritize workloads, and ensure that maintenance projects are completed on time and to standard.
- Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of all mechanical systems in the sawmill, including conveyors, saw blades, motors, hydraulic systems, pumps, and other machinery.
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance programs to reduce downtime and increase the longevity of equipment.
- Oversee the installation, alignment, and setup of new equipment or machinery, ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards.
- Enforce safety procedures and ensure that all maintenance activities comply with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
- Respond quickly to any mechanical failures or malfunctions. Diagnose issues efficiently and implement corrective actions with minimal disruption to production.
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvements in machinery and systems, working with management to implement enhancements that increase productivity and reduce maintenance costs.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and any machinery issues. Provide regular reports on maintenance activities, downtime, and project status.
- Work closely with the operations team, engineers, and other departments to coordinate efforts, troubleshoot issues, and maintain smooth plant operations.
