The Registered Behavior Technician/Behavior therapist is responsible for implementing behavior plans and providing one-on-one therapy to school-aged (7-18) individuals with an autism diagnosis. The BT uses Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies to teach clients new skills and reduce challenging behaviors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hours for this position will be 8:30- 5
  • This is an entry level position!
  • Implement treatment programs in 1:1 and small group settings with school-age clients
  • Implement behavior plan protocols, which include teaching language, social and adaptive skills, activities of daily living, self-care, academic, and cognitive skills.
  • Observe and collect data on the client’s behaviors, program targets, and teaching protocols.
  • Use specific ABA strategies to reduce challenging behaviors and increase new, appropriate behaviors.
  • Record time sheet and note information at the end of each session as directed.
  • Receive supervision from the Behavior Analyst for each client assigned to.
  • Participate in all required meetings.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure client safety and confidentiality.
  • Follow ethical and professional guidelines outlined in the BACB Code of Conduct.
  • Follow supervisory chain of command.
  • Develop options and solutions to crisis and problems.
  • Adapt to and deal with stressful situations.
  • Perform other duties not listed, but which are considered to be essential to the position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills and Abilities

  • A sincere passion for working with individuals with autism and a dedication to improving their quality of life.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with clients, families, and staff.
  • The ability to build positive relationships and collaborate with other professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • The ability to read and interpret documents, treatment plans, behavior intervention plans, meeting notes, policies, and procedures.
  • A strong commitment to advocating for the educational rights and needs of students.
  • Empathy and understanding of the unique needs and challenges of the population served.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development, including staying up-to-date with best practices in therapeutic education.
  • Sensitivity and cultural competency to work effectively with a diverse population of families

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required. A bachelor’s degree in related ABA field or education preferred.
  • Must be willing to obtain Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience

  • Experience using ABA principles and/or working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred. There will be on-site training as well!

Physical Requirements

The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disability to perform the essential functions.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift and carry clients with adaptive equipment.
  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, and/or standing) for an extended period of time.
  • Must be willing to sit on the floor or stand for an extended period of time.
  • Must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements as indicated by the approved protocols or as indicated in the Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).
  • Must be willing to assist with toileting needs as applicable (personal protective equipment is provided).
  • Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection.

Work Hazards

Clients may engage in challenging behaviors, which may pose an injury to staff. Behaviors may include, but are not limited to physical aggression, self-injury, property destruction/throwing items, loud inappropriate vocalizations (cursing, screaming, excessive crying/whining), not following directions and running off without permission. The BT must be able to consistently implement each client’s behavior plan as directed. Initial and ongoing training will be provided to the BT on these plans.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 38 – 40 per week
