Job Summary
We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Medicine to provide psychiatric and mental health nursing care in an inpatient setting. This role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for individuals with dual diagnoses (psychiatric and substance use disorders). The RN will also provide health education, crisis intervention, and therapeutic support to patients and their families.
Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric and mental health nursing care based on ANA Standards of Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical Nursing Practice.
- Assess, diagnose, and implement individualized nursing care plans.
- Intervene with patients using health promotion, intake screening, crisis intervention, counseling, and advocacy.
- Ensure compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
- Supervise and direct nursing unit staff and serve as Charge Nurse when designated.
- Maintain detailed electronic health records (EHR) and patient documentation.
- Participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance initiatives.
- Collaborate with physicians, consultants, and interdepartmental teams to ensure the best patient outcomes.
- Stay current on psychiatric-mental health nursing practices through continuing education.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an NLN-accredited nursing program (bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania (required).

Experience:
- One year of professional nursing experience (preferred).
- Experience in psychiatric or addictions nursing (desired).

Certifications:
- Completion of hospital orientation and required certifications.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric care, addiction treatment, and behavioral health nursing principles.
- Ability to manage infection control procedures and medication administration.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Requires standing, walking, and direct patient interaction for extended periods.
- May involve lifting, maneuvering, and transporting medical equipment and materials.
- Potential exposure to environmental hazards, infectious diseases, and high-stress situations.
- Must be able to respond to psychiatric crises and participate in physical restraints if necessary.
- Flexible scheduling may be required to meet patient care needs.
