Job Overview:
Under the direction of the Security Sergeant and Director of Security, the Behavioral Wellness Center’s Security Officer will perform activities involved in the day-to-day Security of the facility ensuring the protection of Hospital Buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism, and provide for the safety and security of employees, patients, and visitors in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensures that only authorized individuals gain access to the hospital facilities.
- Conducts regular patrols of the hospital's buildings and grounds to deter fire hazards, theft, and vandalism.
- Evaluates the security of doors, windows, locks, and fire exits to assess safety levels.
- Reviews incoming and outgoing packages to safeguard property and prevent theft.
- Checks unused areas to confirm they are secure and records any issues in the main log.
- Unlocks secured doors for hospital staff in accordance with hospital regulations. Investigates reports of unusual incidents from staff, visitors, and patients, and documents findings in incident reports/logs.
- Employs effective de-escalation strategies to address security concerns. Detains or restrains patients/clients when necessary.
- Responsible for the upkeep and management of departmental supplies and equipment throughout the shift, ensuring any issues with Security equipment are reported immediately.
- Observes and documents all safety, fire, or other potential hazards encountered during regular patrols and inspections, communicating these to the Supervisor and recording them in the Post Log.
- Engages in ongoing professional development through in-services, educational programs, seminars, workshops, and professional associations.
- Regularly updates the Sergeant on activities, incidents, requirements, and challenges faced during the assigned shift.
- Operates hospital vehicles as needed.
- Responds to / Answers all Codes, Condition Red, Code 777, etc.
- Additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Upon hire, you must have a High School diploma or equivalent; current, valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record; and 1 year of Security or law enforcement experience. Bilingual capabilities and previous experience in a hospital or healthcare environment are a plus. Within 30 days of hire, successful and satisfactory completion of CPI or other de-escalation training is required. Valid PA ACT 235 Certification preferred
