Position Summary
The Benjamin School seeks a part-time Grade 4 and Grade 5 Band Teacher, working approximately three hours a day, five days a week. The Lower School Band Teacher will develop and implement engaging lessons for our band students in those two grades, prepare performances for concerts and other school events, assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support their musical development, and help ensure that the school community is energized about upcoming performing arts events. Ideal candidates are passionate about ensemble music experiences for the novice instrument student and teaching music in a collaborative environment.

Instructional -
- Instruct and manage the band instrumental program for students in Grades 4 and 5
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support their musical development
- With colleagues in the Lower School performing arts department, coordinate concert performances
- Collaborate with other faculty and staff as part of a community that emphasizes mutual support and shared programmatic creation and implementation
- Assist with set-ups, tear downs, and bandroom maintenance as necessary
- Attend and participate in colleague meetings, professional development, in-service days, and other duties as assigned. While a part-time position, we encourage this individual to be as fully active a member of our professional community as schedule allows
- Strong Work Ethic: High energy, self-starter with ability to successfully prioritize and multi-task in an atmosphere in which time-sensitive deadlines are the norm, as are interruptions
- Passion for Band Instruction: Expertise in creating age-appropriate and engaging instrument lessons that encourage and develop the skills and abilities of the student relatively new to the instrument

- Regularly uses close and distance vision. Works at a computer screen for periods of time. Ability to observe students from various distances.
- Frequently moves around the band room, practice room, or performance space, works at a desk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in a very busy and highly involved environment
- Ability to periodically work flexible hours to support before and after-school or weekend events
Essential -
- Bachelor's degree in music or music education, or related field
- Experience teaching band
- A thorough knowledge of and ability to instruct a range of musical instruments
- Strong relationships with children, families, and past colleagues
- Proficiency with technology including iPad, learning management systems, and basic G Suite for Education (Google) tools
- Master’s degree in music, music education, or related field
