Job Description

The Benson Hotel, one of Portland’s finest historic, luxury, boutique hotels and proud member of the Curio Collection by Hilton, is seeking a self-motivated individual for the position of Front Desk Manager. We are looking for someone who is outgoing, friendly and enjoys working in a team atmosphere.

As the Front Desk Manager, your dynamic, positive leadership skills will drive employee motivation and ensure the front desk is held to the highest of standards. This position will entail working as the Manager on Duty and the direct supervision of the Front Desk and Night Audit staff.

We are looking for someone who will ensure our guests receive the highest level of gracious hospitality. Our ideal candidate will be friendly, accurate, responsible, knowledgeable, honest, and willing to provide our guests with a memorable experience that will set, not only them, but the Benson apart from all others.

Job Duties and Tasks
· Effectively manage overall operation of Front Desk

· Follow all property safety procedures

· Follow all policies and procedures while constantly striving to improve all standards of operation

· Participate in the hotel’s MOD program weekly

· Ensure prompt and courteous service to all guests to provide a positive guest experience

· Ensure the Front Desk operation is adhering to Hilton’s brand standards

· Interpret and implement a course of action based on financial reports as needed

· Hire, train, supervise, coach and counsel Front Desk employees

· Provide weekly staff schedules with adequate staffing per established guidelines

· Conduct quarterly and annual performance reviews of all department employees

· Display familiarity with hotel and guest room floor layouts

· Have knowledge of all hotel outlets and their hours of operations and availability

· Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics which inspire employees to meet and exceed standards

· Monitor and finalize payroll hours

· Determine daily, weekly, and monthly occupancy selling status and strategies

· Interpret and implement a course of action for the department based on financial reports

· Complete reports and paperwork (i.e. forecast, annual budgets, plans and actions, etc.)

· Ensure that objectives of sales, costs, profits and performance are met

· Acknowledge and resolve all guest issues in a timely manner

· Review reservation forecasts, catering functions, convention pick-up, marketing plans, promotional packages, and notify staff of changes

· Schedule, attend and conduct departmental meetings

· Assure property operation meets internal audit standards

· Attend all mandatory meetings

· Maintain a good working relationship with other departments, employees, and guests

· Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor to include cross-training

· Report all unsafe conditions immediately

· Keep work area clean and organized

Requirements
· High School Degree or Equivalent

· Two years front office experience (minimum 6 months reservations and 6 months front desk)

· Basic accounting knowledge (P&L Statements, Labor and Cost Control, etc.)

· Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent customer service skills

· Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook

· Previous cash handling experience required

· Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other employees

· Must be able to multitask and possess superior organizational skills

· Must be efficient in a fast paced & high-pressure environment

· Demonstrate leadership and motivational skills

· Flexible schedule is required; this position will be a combination of days, evenings, weekends and holidays

Physical Requirements
· Lifting up to 40 pounds

· Sitting, standing, and twisting when communicating with several people at once.

· Frequent extending and reaching while exchanging papers and keys with guests

· Frequent handling and grasping telephones, guest folios and rooms keys

· Constant computer keyboard use

· Frequent telephone communication

· Frequent use of a two-way radio

This position is a full-time salaried exempt position.
