The Best Bees Company is currently looking for a Shop Manager located in Boston to join our Operations team and help further our mission of promoting pollinator health across the US!

We install, manage, and collect data from honey bee hives in urban centers across the US. This data not only fuels research into pollinator health across the US, but also helps inform and guide broader initiatives to protect and promote pollinator and environmental health.
The Shop Manager role, internally referred to as Deck Chief, manages the operations shop space where equipment is stored, constructed, and maintained and supports the beekeeping team with their needs throughout the season. This position has direct reports on the beekeeping team and is responsible for the management of the physical space and fleet.
Responsibilities:
- Management of first-level beekeepers, assigning daily tasks and projects as needed according to the operations calendar
- Management of the physical deck space, including organization of equipment and resources, inventory management, and safety management
- Assist in the hiring and training of new staff members in the deck space, retraining for existing staff as seasonal goals/tasks change
- Management of the Boston Fleet, including tracking repair needs and coordinating fixes/repairs/regular maintenance as may be necessary
- Working with new company drivers to assess driving ability and sign off on driving qualifications
- Active pest control in the facility space, including typical facility pests and pests specific to beekeeping
- Management of supply order form for the Boston space, including placing and receiving orders, ensuring materials are reordered as necessary and distributed
- Potential for inter-state travel as may be necessary to facilitate equipment transfers to other regions
Qualifications:
- Driver's license with clean driving record
- Managerial experience
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills
- Working understanding of safety protocols as they relate to physical workspaces, including chemical storage
- Ability to train others on important processes/procedures
- Light repair knowledge, general maintenance, plumbing/electrical experience preferred
- Knowledge of beekeeping, not required
- OSHA-10 required within first 90 days
