Description :  The Museum Educator collaborates with the education team on the implementation of all art, art history, and cross-curricular academic offerings and experiences. They are responsible for delivering educational programming daily to a wide range of visitors, including school groups, families, and adults. The Biggs Museum is looking for someone who is energetic and passionate about educating our community in the arts and is comfortable with public speaking, working both with a team and independently, and helping foster a growing public engagement with the museum and its offerings.

Education and Experience :  4-6 years formal / informal education experience; bachelor’s degree in art history, Museum Studies, Studio Art, and / or Education preferred. Experience working with Pre-K to 12th grade learners and students with disabilities. Strong computer skills and a high comfort level with technology. Organizational Structure :  Reports to the Director of Learning and Engagement as a member of the Biggs’ Education Department; works closely with education and curatorial program associates and visitor experience team members, while also collaborating regularly with the rest of the staff and leadership team. Additionally, the Museum Educator will be asked to manage volunteers and interns when necessary.

Schedule :  Full-time, salaried position (40 hours / week, Monday-Friday, 9 AM–5 PM).  Some evening and weekend work will be required . This role is not conducive to work-from-home arrangements, and candidates must reside in or relocate to the Dover, DE area.

Responsibilities

  • Lead group tours and present information on museum content daily to a variety of audiences
  • Teach art projects, craft workshops, lecture-based programs, and more in relation to the content of the museum and related objects / histories
  • Work with local art leagues, contracted artists, camp directors, and student volunteers or interns on educational programs and special projects
  • Collaborate with the Director of Learning and Engagement and the education team to develop program content and plans for implementation
  • Implement essential diversity, equity, and inclusion practices into regular teaching methods
  • Help write, review, and teach lessons designed for a variety of programs, especially those involving student field trips, summer camps, and art activities and courses offered to the public
  • Conduct research in relation to museum content and related materials
  • Pursue professional development opportunities in relation to art education and maintain up-to-date knowledge on teaching practices and standards.
  • Maintain an organized and well-structured workspace while managing a number of art and program materials

Compensation :  The position offers a salary range of $42,000 - 45,000 annually commensurate with experience, along with insurance benefits, IRA match, PTO, and more.
