Position Overview:
The Biome School is currently seeking a full-time Custodian. Starting salary is $17-$20 per hour. The position is full-time Monday through Friday from 7:00 am - 3:30 pm with occasional Saturdays as needed. Standard hours of operation may change due to seasonal or programmatic changes. This position is responsible for performing custodial duties to maintain the school’s three (3) campus buildings as assigned in a neat, clean and orderly condition. Duties and responsibilities will take place in the campus buildings and outside on the campus grounds, as needed. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; cleaning classrooms, hallways, offices, gymnasiums, restrooms, and other areas as assigned; emptying wastebaskets and handling trash/recyclable. The individual may be required to perform minor maintenance; assist in setups for meetings/events; unlock and lock buildings; remove snow, and perform other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Keeps building and property in clean and orderly condition
- Performs routine maintenance activities
- Performs heavy cleaning duties
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums floors
- Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions
- Dusts surfaces of buildings and furniture
- Gathers and empties trash
- Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities
- Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment
- Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers
- Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions
- Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
- Cleans and polishes fixtures and furniture
- Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs
- Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures
- Notifies managers regarding the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems
- Cleans toilet facilities in assigned areas
- Cleans entrance and door glass where reachable
- Locks and unlocks facilities within assigned areas
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
- Willing to work flexible hours inclusive of weekend work when necessary and overtime
Qualifications:
- High School diploma and the equivalent of at least two (2) years experience in institutional cleaning
- Working knowledge of cleaning products & procedures and cleaning
- Minor maintenance and equipment repair ability a plus
- Available to work occasional Saturdays
- Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity
- Ability to understand verbal instructions and written and verbal communications
- Ability to use the equipment and supplies necessary to maintain the school building

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, and is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to maintain the school’s three (3) campus buildings. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
