The Birches Academy is a STEAM integrated public charter school located in Salem, NH. The mission of the Birches Academy is to provide excellence in core academics and the arts while cultivating the individual qualities and strengths of each child. This position is for a STEAM Teacher/Integrationist.
The Birches Academy is a STEAM integrated charter school and we are looking for a STEAM Teacher/Integrationist to provide more opportunities for students to engage in hands-on, challenging, creative, and project-based work so that they develop into inventors, change makers, and entrepreneurs in an ever-evolving world. The STEAM Teacher will teach STEAM curriculum to all K-8 grades and will collaborate with teachers across grades to advance the existing science, technology, arts, and math curricula, as well as incorporate the Engineering Design Process into lessons by establishing a vertical and horizontally aligned, robust, and comprehensive STEAM curriculum that integrates subjects and deepens students’ understanding of STEAM concepts. The STEAM Teacher will develop inquiry-based learning experiences within a defined scope and sequence that foster students’ individual inventiveness. The STEAM Teacher will originate and nurture educationally powerful community partnerships that further enhance STEAM integration and students’ academic experiences. Curricular work will be guided by ISTE and NGSS Standards and those assigned by the Dean of the School. Duties shall include management and maintenance of the STEAM resources (i.e. 3d printers, robotics kits, circuitry sets, tools, and crafts). Lastly, the teacher will oversee the establishment and running of a Birches Academy Robotics Team.
Responsibilities:
•Plan and implement a rigorous core academic program with a thematic approach to curriculum
•Assess students using a variety of assessment tools (such as: rubrics portfolio and exhibitions)
•Provide emotionally and developmentally appropriate experience for students
•Facilitate the learning process of students by giving critical feedback in a timely manner
•Adjust instruction to engage and challenge learners, to encourage independent learning and to develop a lifelong love of learning in students
•Manage student learning and behavior
•Communicate effectively with parents and community
•Work as a professional member of a school-wide teaching team
•Work with administration to meet terms of the charter
Qualifications:
*Experience teaching STEAM
• Masters Degree preferred
*Teaching experience: 3 years preferred
•Current teacher certification (not required) , or significant teaching experience
