  • This position will start as a part-time temporary position through 8/29/25; however, the right candidate may be offered a part-time or full-time long-term position, with the opportunity for promotion as we continue to expand.

STAFF ROLE QUALIFICATIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, & EXPECTATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL POSITIONS:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Be registered through MTECP.org and maintain an active registry status (renewed annually).
  • Pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Hold a current Infant/Child/Adult CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
  • Complete all state-required training annually and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to The Birds Nest’s philosophy, mission, and vision.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ALL POSITIONS:

  • Maintain an active MTECP registry and stay current with required certifications and training.
  • Work collaboratively with your teaching team to:

> Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.

> Create and sustain an enriching, developmentally appropriate learning experience.

> Support the individual developmental needs of each student.

  • Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage from the start to the end of each shift.
  • Follow technology use policies, ensuring cell phones and personal devices are stored appropriately and not used during working hours.
  • Actively supervise children at all times and follow safety protocols.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment for children, families, and staff.

POSITION-SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

VILLAGE ASSISTANT

Qualifications: Actively working toward obtaining a high school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all classroom tasks* as assigned by the Lead Assistant and/or Lead Educator.
  • Support educators by engaging with students, assisting in transitions, and maintaining a positive classroom atmosphere.
  • Follow all supervision guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.

Availability Requirements: Be flexible and willing to work in any class based on the program’s needs. Have a minimum availability of 9:15 AM – 4:00 PM (3 days/week) and 8:15 AM – 1:30 PM (2 days/week).

ASSISTANT EDUCATOR

Qualifications: Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Lead Educator and Lead Assistant in implementing daily routines, curriculum, and student engagement activities.
  • Assist with all classroom tasks* as assigned by the Lead Assistant and/or Lead Educator.
  • Take initiative to facilitate activities and provide individualized support for students.
  • Step into the Lead Assistant role when both the Lead Assistant and Lead Educator are absent or out of the classroom.

Availability Requirements: Be flexible and willing to work in any class based on the program’s needs. Have a minimum availability of 8:00 AM – 4:15 PM (4 days/week) and 8:00 AM – 1:30 PM (1 day/week).

LEAD ASSISTANT EDUCATOR

Qualifications:

  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Actively working towards obtaining a degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Two years experience in a registered or licensed childcare program.
  • AND a level two on the ECP Practitioner Registry.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Lead Educator in planning and implementing the daily schedule and curriculum.
  • Work with the teaching team to ensure all classroom tasks* are effectively assigned and completed.
  • Maintain an organized and engaging learning environment in alignment with TBN’s philosophy.
  • Step into the Lead Educator role when they are absent or out of the classroom.
  • Model positive guidance techniques, active supervision, and professional communication.

Availability Requirements: Be flexible and willing to sub in any class based on the program’s needs. Must work a minimum of 32 hours/week and have a minimum availability of 42.75 hours/week including 7:30 AM – 4:15 PM or 8:15 AM - 5:00 PM (3 days/week), 7:30 AM – 3:45 PM or 8:45 AM - 5:00 PM (1 day/week), and 7:30 AM - 1:30 PM or 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM (1 day/week).

LEAD EDUCATOR

Qualifications:

  • Hold a degree in Early Childhood Education or an equivalent field;
  • OR actively working towards obtaining a degree in Early Childhood Education and have a minimum of three years experience in a registered or licensed childcare program;
  • OR seven years experience in a registered or licensed childcare program.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction in the classroom, ensuring that daily routines and learning experiences align with The Birds Nest’s mission.
  • Work with the teaching team to ensure all classroom tasks* are effectively assigned and completed.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum that fosters independence, creativity, and exploration.
  • Observe and assess student development, maintaining accurate records and feedback to families.
  • Maintain compliance with licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and program policies.
  • Mentor and support Assistant Educators, Floating Aides, and Lead Assistants, fostering professional growth within the team.

Availability Requirements: Must work a minimum of 38 hours/week and be able to open or close a minimum of 10 times/pay period.

ADMINISTRATIVE LEAD

Qualifications: Hold a degree in a relevant field (Business, Education, Child Development, etc.). Actively working towards obtaining a degree in Early Childhood Education (if not already held).

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support for daily program operations.
  • Assist in classroom tasks* when needed, ensuring smooth operations across the program.
  • Support educators by managing supplies, resources, and communication with families.
  • Help coordinate professional development and training opportunities for staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between educators, families, and administration to maintain a strong program culture.

Availability Requirements: Be flexible and willing to sub in any class based on the program’s needs. Must be able to open or close a minimum of 8 times/pay period. A minimum of one Administrative Lead or Program Director must be on site during all operating hours.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Qualifications: Hold a degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Business, or a closely related field. Have prior leadership experience. Possess a strong understanding of Montana childcare licensing regulations, best practices in early learning, and program development.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of program operations, ensuring alignment with The Birds Nest’s mission, vision, and philosophy.
  • Ensure full compliance with state licensing requirements, health and safety standards, and staff training mandates.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Lead Educators and Administrative Leads, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that support quality improvement and effective program management.
  • Manage staffing, hiring, and professional development to maintain a well-qualified and engaged team.
  • Oversee curriculum development and implementation, ensuring a high-quality early learning experience for students.
  • Maintain strong communication with families, addressing concerns, supporting parent engagement, and fostering a connected community.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and program growth to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.

Availability Requirements: Must work a minimum of 38 hours/week and be able to open or close a minimum of 8 times/pay period. A minimum of one Administrative Lead or Program Director must be on site during all operating hours.

DEFINITION OF CLASSROOM TASKS:

  • Cleaning & Sanitization: Maintaining a safe, healthy environment by sanitizing surfaces, toys, and materials.
  • Diapering & Bathroom Assistance: Following proper hygiene and supervision protocols for diapering and restroom use.
  • Meal Prep & Assistance: Setting up meals, assisting children with eating, and ensuring food safety protocols are followed.
  • Student Engagement: Actively interacting with students, facilitating learning experiences, and supporting their social-emotional development.
  • Active Supervision: Ensuring children’s safety through constant monitoring, engaging interactions, and awareness of all areas.
  • Classroom Organization: Maintaining an organized space by setting up materials, rotating activities, and ensuring a welcoming environment.
  • Outdoor Supervision & Play: Engaging children in outdoor activities while ensuring safety and appropriate play interactions.
  • Supporting Transitions: Helping children move smoothly between activities, routines, and different classroom settings.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week
