What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Network Engineering position at The Bison Group?
The Director of Network Engineering is responsible for delivering and maintaining a 24x7x365, 99.999% availability, scalable, secure, and redundant Cisco-based network infrastructure in a mission-critical, multi data center network environment. The Director will be primarily responsible for customer network provisioning, network design and implementation, network security policy development and implementation, customer support, and other duties associated with the operations of our client's public and private network infrastructure.
This role is remote, but will require 20% travel to the Midwest and Southeast and ideally be located in Ohio, Indiana, or the Carolinas.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement the design, development, and execution of our client's public and private network infrastructure and develop a strategy for the operation and maintenance of this core network infrastructure to ensure maximum uptime of at least 99.999%
- Work to assure timely and accurate installation of customer network services
- Monitor the daily operations, performance, and security of the overall network, responding to problems and incidents as necessary in accordance with operating policy and customer facing service level commitments
- Drive the on-going development and enhancement of our client's Network Architecture
- Plan, anticipate, test, and document infrastructure changes and impacts before implementation in
- the production environment
- Troubleshoot configuration issues involving software conflicts, hardware problems, network protocols (TCP/IP, IS/IS, OSPF, BGP)
- Assist in the development, implementation, documentation, and adherence to strong network security techniques, and policies, including incident response procedures
- Assist in the development and documentation of other network operating policies and procedures to include: Acceptable Use for Employees and Customers of our client's, Data & Information Security for operating procedures and infrastructure, Tape Back-up, Testing and Restoration, Disaster Recovery, System Change Management
- Work with sales staff in the design and implementation of customer solutions
- Assist staff with the proper operation of the corporate network systems
- Work with external vendors and support providers as required
- Adhere to and enforce our client’s technical policies and system change-management procedures
- Perform ongoing analysis of carrier network infrastructure to assure maximum return on contracted services
- Manage carrier vendor relationships to assure best pricing, installation, and service structures available
- Build Internal Industry Awareness: Continually seek industry and market information to provide our client with the information necessary for successful business development
- Monthly Executive KPI data and reporting
- Other - Assist with other responsibilities as assigned by your management
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in technology-related discipline
- Related Work Experience: 8-10 years of experience leading a network team.
- Ensure Program/Industry certification requirements are met for employees based off vendor program requirements
- Certifications: Cisco CCNP or commensurate
- Technical Skills: ISP experience, BGP, Cisco, Carrier grade network, network security
- Other: Sense of urgency, self-motivated, attention to detail, product architect, documentation
