THE OPPORTUNITY
The University of Virginia Foundation (the Foundation) is inviting applications for an accomplished and collaborative leader to serve as General Manager of its wholly-owned subsidiary, the Boar's Head Resort. This role will support key initiatives and priorities to provide overall leadership for resort operations. The General Manager will report to Russ Cronberg, Director of Hospitality at the UVA Foundation.
Established in 1986, the Foundation supports the University of Virginia's academic, research, and public service mission by providing strategic real estate, financial, and administrative services to the University and its associated organizations.

BOAR'S HEAD RESORT
Nestled within bucolic acreage at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Boar's Head Resort serves the University of Virginia's meeting, conference, and recruiting needs. With a warm and intimate ambiance and exceptional southern hospitality, the historic resort offers 168 elegant rooms and suites, excellent dining, a vast array of recreational activities, a luxury spa, an award-winning golf course, and over 20,000 square feet of meeting facilities situated on a 600-acre property.
THE ROLE
The General Manager will oversee and be responsible for the main hotel, Sports Club, Spa, Birdwood Golf, and Birdwood Mansion (future); ensure operating standards and policies are followed to maintain a quality of service commensurate with the Forbes Luxury standards; achieve profitability of resort operations according to annual budgets approved by owners and the board of directors; guarantee the safety and well-being of resort guests and team members; and embrace and model the values, vision, and service culture of the Boar's Head Resort, the Foundation, and the University of Virginia.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Culture and Values
- Facilitate unity and teamwork amongst all departments and cultivate a supportive and productive relationship with internal and external guests.

Financial Performance
- Monitor financial performance of all resort operations and ensure that results meet or exceed budget.
- Analyze monthly profit and loss statements and, in case of negative variances to budget, determine the best course of action to close the gap.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning
- Maintain financial and service competitiveness of the resort within the marketplace and direct operations to respond to the changing needs of the resort's customer base.
- Oversee the creation of an annual budget, marketing plans, and strategies to achieve targeted results.
Organization
- Support and actively promote cultural values while focusing on the vision of Boar's Head Resort being among the top resorts in Virginia.
- Foster a work climate of mutual support conducive to bringing out the best effort in team members.
- Support a proactive Human Resources function to ensure team member motivation, training and development, compensation, and compliance with established labor regulations.
Oversight
- Lead, direct, and manage all hotel operations including, but not limited to, budgeting and forecasting, strategic planning, leading service initiatives, and implementing and complying with all company policies and standards.
- Ensure ongoing productivity of resort operations and optimal staffing levels.
- Periodically evaluate functionality of organizational structure and make changes when appropriate.
- Protect resort assets from neglect and abuse.
- Conduct annual performance reviews of executive committee members.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal labor laws and OSHA regulations.
- Work with UVA Athletics to coordinate events and tournaments at facilities on resort grounds.
Resort Image
- Manage public perception of the resort by modeling 'good corporate citizenship' through support of apolitical community and charitable endeavors. It is essential the resort is constantly mindful of its relationships with the University of Virginia and ensures positive attribution to the University of Virginia in all its actions.
Safety and Security of Guests and Team Members
- Protect, at all times, the individual and collective safety and security of resort guests and team members by monitoring all ongoing activities occurring on resort property and inspecting all buildings and grounds regularly for any possible safety hazards
IDEAL EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Hotel or Business Management and/or Diploma of International Hotel School and US Certification in Hotel Administration (AHLA-CHA)
- Ten years of experience in the hospitality industry with at least five years of experience as a General Manager or Assistant General Manager, or position of equivalent experience at a Forbes-rated property.
- Prior Food and Beverage leadership experience desired but not required.
- Previous experience growing top-line revenues at a resort fully utilizing all resort assets (Golf, Spa, Racquets, Events).
- Excellent leadership and team engagement track record.
- High-performing General Manager or Assistant General Manager with experience operating and positioning a successful resort property against its competitive set.
