Organization and Program Summary: The Book Works Project is a nonprofit organization in Louisville, KY advocating for and with youth and young adults who are disconnected from school and work.
Purpose of the Position: The Engagement Specialist supports The Book Works team in developing and implementing programming for middle and high school-age youth (12- to 21-year-olds) who are not in school on school days.
Primary Tasks: An integral part of The Book Works team, the Engagement Specialist will assist as needed with a variety of tasks that may include:
- Collecting and analyzing community-level data;
- Developing internal processes for data collection and analysis;
- Conducting outreach and marketing to community partners, families, and potential AmeriCorps members. Developing marketing materials and newsletters;
- Assisting with record keeping for grant writing and reporting;
- Serving as part of the Education Engagement Hub team, assisting learners and demonstrating behaviors that build community and focus on developing new skills;
- Assisting with daily site set-up, clean-up, and record keeping including attendance, surveys, and client management system input;
- Co-facilitate small group and individual activities with learners and families;
- Maintain detailed and accurate learner files, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with all relevant regulations;
- Participate in professional development and program evaluations.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Experience working effectively with youth from diverse and traditionally underserved populations including students of color, low-income students, or students with disabilities.
- Excellent skills in communication, problem solving, and prioritizing daily tasks. Must have demonstrated the ability to adjust to new and unexpected priorities professionally.
- Demonstrated capacity to develop and foster professional working relationships with students, families, community partners, and team members.
- Proficient in CMS, GSuite and Microsoft tools. Comfortable with learning new technologies and processes.
- Experience handling confidential information with discretion .
- High school diploma and 18 years of age minimum.
Note: Reliable transportation is preferred. Mileage between worksites is reimbursed.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
