What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Life Associate (overnight), Bowery Campus position at The Bowery Mission?
The Bowery Mission is a Christian, faith-based organization committed since the 1870s to serving people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty. As a key member of the Make Progress (MP) team, the Community Life Associate supports the Community Life department in establishing a safe and welcoming residential community. Supports MP Community Life in creating a trauma-informed residential community that fosters positive and growing relationships with God and others and equips clients to achieve independent living goals. Welcomes and orients new clients to campus. Utilizes a mentoring/coaching approach to ensure client support of Community Life Guidelines. Oversees clients in daily community responsibilities. Supports team to achieve excellence in standards of hospitality and physical safety, including fire safety and crisis intervention. Fosters effective and supportive collaboration with other departments. Utilizes effective verbal and written communication skills to facilitate excellent client experience and attend to needs in alignment with the organization's culture and values. Identifies unexpected and reoccurring problems, problem solves and provides timely information to impacted parties.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ensure effective practices that foster a safe, welcoming, healthy, and caring living environment.
- Conduct hourly rounds and required fire safety checks and/or required fire drills.
- Support team to welcome and orient new clients to residence and review Community Life Guidelines.
- Foster supportive and positive communication and boundaries between staff and clients.
- Update Shift Report throughout shift. Update fire-safety logs as per protocol.
- Ensure census and client data is accurately recorded, including Community Life notes, shifts notes, client medication usage log, and incident reports.
- Promptly enter client updates on online case-management platform.
Schedule: Friday - Tuesday: 10:30pm - 7:00am (Wednesday/Thursday off)
Requirements:
- Embrace's the organization’s Statement of Faith.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in direct care (ministry, non-profit, or human services) or customer service.
- High School diploma/GED
- Conflict resolution and reporting skills.
- Excellent relational and communication skills.
- Computer & email proficiency.
Preferred:
- Certified in Mental Health First Aid.
- Certified in Non-violent Crisis Intervention.
- Motivational Interviewing.
- First Aid/CPR, F-80 and/or F-02 fire safety certification.
Salary: $19.23 per hour
