The Bowery Mission is a Christian, faith-based organization committed since the 1870s to serving people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty. The Bowery Mission meets essential needs and creates transformative communities with men, women, children, and families in New York so that we can together overcome homelessness and poverty and flourish.
As a key member of the Development Team, the Grant Writer helps to raise critical funds necessary to transform lives at The Bowery Mission. The Grant Writer supports the Partnerships Team by developing strong grant proposals and reports, performing prospect research, and assisting with cultivation of foundation relationships. Reporting to the Development Officer of Institutional Giving; the Grant Writer will help maintain administrative oversight of the grants calendar, keeping the team abreast of upcoming proposal and report deadlines. The Grant Writer will also develop new content to best represent the work and impact of The Bowery Mission to funders and external stakeholders. Overseeing a small caseload, the Grant Writer will help to cultivate and grow funder relationships.

Specific Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
- Assist supervisor with assigned grant proposals and reports; complete in a timely manner according to deadlines recorded in Granthub.
- Manage a small caseload of institutional partners, primarily private foundations.
- Manage and monitor all proposal and report deadlines. Develop and improve systems, processes and procedures for grants management, monitoring, and record-keeping.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of foundation caseloads, so as to assist with prioritization of upcoming projects and proposals.
- Identify new partnership prospects. Research and identify a minimum of 25 proposal/grant application opportunities annually.
- Fill in necessary forms for the Donor Services team to accurately track Foundation revenue. Reconcile the monthly revenue matrix.
- In collaboration with content creators, work with the Development Officer, Institutional Giving to update/rewrite boilerplate to improve content and reflect developments in organizational priorities, language, and programming.
- Develop a central hub where boilerplate language is kept, along with copy commonly used to answer proposal questions.
- Embrace's the organization’s Statement of Faith.
- 3-4 years of experience in Development.
- 1-2 years grant writing experience.
- Bachelor’s degree; preference in Journalism, English, or Business; or equivalent experience in a professional writing capacity.
- Skilled in writing, synthesizing, and narrativizing.
- Confidentiality of donor giving and all other donor data.
- High proficiency in Microsoft applications.
- Always be ready to meet donors and visitors (Professional Attire and Neat Workspace).
- Proficiency with CRM databases, grant databases.
- Grant writing experience preferred in human services sector.

Salary : $72,000 - $77,000
