POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Bridgman Elementary Program Instructor
DEPARTMENT: Programs
REPORTS TO: Unit/Site Director
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
WORKING HOURS: 2:30pm-6:00pm
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
- Plans, implements, supervises members, and evaluates activities provided within a specific program area, supporting our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character, and Citizenship assures all programs are meeting Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the district’s standards and objectives.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Outcomes Management
- Coordinate programming and activities for members by appropriate grades.
- Plan, implement, and facilitate daily activities using the BGCA program delivery model and curriculum.
- Ensure daily programming is well organized and meets BGCA requirements for safe, optimal club experience.
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
o Register new members and participate in their club orientation process.
o Promote and stimulate program participation.
o Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
- Program Development and Implementation:
o Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for all members and visitors.
o Monitor and self-evaluate programs, delivery, services, and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs.
o Promote and stimulate program participation.
o Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
o Prepare periodic activity report.
- Provide positive, visible, and continuous supervision of Club members during operating hours.
- Help Site leadership meet site’s ADA and performance objectives including new member recruitment activities as applicable.
- Maintain member’s daily program attendance records; daily signing members in and out of programs.
- Manage member conduct daily and make recommendations to Program manager regarding disciplinary action(s) as needed.
- Work with staff, volunteers, and other community partners to maximize resources and drive positive member impact.
- Maintain cleanliness of site facility.
- Manage and maintain site equipment and materials.
Resource Management & Evaluation
- Ensure safe practices are in place to implement quality programs.
- Complete required training.
- Support Club’s YPQA evaluation efforts as identified.
Supervision
- Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly staff meetings.
Additional Responsibilities
- Abide by and support the Club mission- to inspire and enable all youth to reach their full potential, as caring, productive, and responsible citizens.
- May support special programs and/or events (i.e. Unity Day), and/or participate in the implementation of other Club activities as necessary.
- Assume other various duties, as assigned.
Relationships
- Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
- Internal: Has regular contact with members to be their best selves. Must be cooperative, friendly, and create a safe and harmonious environment.
- External: Maintain contact as needed with parents and other external community groups to assist in resolving problems and support Club efforts.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or GED
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience with working with children and knowledge of youth development.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Ability to deal with the public.
- Mandatory CPR & First Aid Certifications (training provided)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to squat or bend to communicate at youths’ level.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds for short periods of time.
- Must be able to participate in physical activities throughout the facility, on the property and/or on field trips.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $12.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 25 per week
