Position Description

The Assistant/Hourly Athletic Trainer is a non-exempt position that reports to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for supplemental management of the athletic training program, as well as managing Magnus school records and record-keeping updates.  This position requires travel and work in the evenings and weekends, and occasional support during the summer months of June and July.

Responsibilities

Critical features of this job are described below. They may be subject to change at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons.

•Provides hourly athletic training coverage of practices and contests, athletic events, and other select school events to provide medical emergency and acute injury care.
•Communicates daily with the Athletic Directors in regards to student injury and safety concerns.
•Works closely with the Head Athletic Trainer, athletic department, coaches, and parents/guardians to communicate the status of student injuries, wellness, and rehabilitation.
•Collaborates with Head Athletic Trainer to maintain a dynamic Athletic Training Manual reflective of all operations of the Athletic Training Program.
•Collaborates with the Athletic Director and Coaches with regard to students’ athletic medical clearance and manages rosters and creates emergency records for each season of sport.
•Recognizes and assesses student basic athletic injuries, and provides initial first aid treatment and refers as appropriate.
•Assists students with rehabilitation under the guidance of their medical professional.
•Assists the Head Athletic Trainer to supervise the Athletic Training room, and works to foster a professional atmosphere where students understand the importance of the training space as a center of healing and physical rehabilitation.
•In coordination with the Safety Coordinator, works to develop and implement strategies and safeguards that protect, improve, and manage the health and safety of students and employees.
•Acts as liaison with physicians, students, athletes, coaching staff, Athletic Director, Dean of Students, parents/guardians, and other allied health professionals to provide assistance with the student’s health and well being, and accommodations needed to return to school.
•Allies with the counseling department to support the overall social and emotional health of all students.
•Provides access to over-the-counter medication for students in accordance with physicians’ directions, applicable school policy, and legal guidelines, and ensures required documentation.


Health Records System (MAGNUS and SportsWare) Responsibilities:
•Ensures that health records are appropriately updated; including medical records of illnesses, injuries, treatment plans ,and progress as well as any current medications required by the student. Maintains appropriate medical records of illnesses, injuries, treatment plans, and progress (Magnus Health and SportsWare).
• Creates relevant reports.
• Keeps up to date with Magnus and SportsWare best practices and software changes.
 

Requirements:

•BS in Kinesiology, PE, Health, Pre-Medicine or other related field preferred.

•Board of Certification Athletic Trainer (BOC)

•Minimum of three (3) years prior Athletic Training experience

•Certificate in occupational health and safety is preferred.

•Familiarity with writing safety policies, plans, and manuals.

•Proficiency in gathering data, completing analysis, and reporting statistics.

•Knowledge of pre-adolescent and adolescent development (physical, cognitive, behavioral,

emotional) and ability to use this information to provide staff with insight to support student health needs in conjunction with our counseling team.

 

Physical Requirements:

 
  • Heavy work.  Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to assist with athletes of various weights and heights.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, have good mobility skills and be able to walk long distances.
  • Must be able to carry training kit and coolers for long distances.
  • Use strength to lift items, raising objects from lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. 
  • Must be able to bend at hips and knees.
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
