What You’ll Do…
Under general supervision, the Estimator will identify and prepare project bids in accordance with the project plans, specifications and other listed requirements. This position will require both public and private construction estimating experience for projects up to $70 million in value including management of minority goal requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Estimating
- Identify project leads and obtain project documents,
- Preparation and management of project estimating files
- Perform detailed material takeoffs including utilization of Agtek for earthwork quantities.
- Obtain quotes from subcontractors and material suppliers.
- Creation of preliminary project schedule for estimating purposes.
- Attendance of pre-bid meetings as necessary
- Management and documentation of all pre-bid communications
- Prepare detailed Estimates using Heavy Bid.
- Present estimates in bid reviews
- Supervise and mentor estimating staff
Additional Duties
- Travels to jobsites as required.
- Develops and maintains records and documentation of production costs, performance against established standards, and other related metrics.
- Assist with pre-award requirements as necessary.
- Meets with project staff to ensure a seamless transition between estimating and project management.
- Assist project management staff with change order pricing as required

- Ability to handle multiple assignments at once.
- Excellent math and engineering skills.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Strong knowledge of project coordination and scheduling.
- Proficiency in construction estimating techniques.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient with HeavyBid estimating software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
- Minimum 5 years Caltrans experience preferred.
- 10 years of related estimating experience required; supervisory experience preferred.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time
- Monday through Friday
- Weekends as needed

Important Notes:
- This position is based in Arroyo Grande, CA, and requires full-time, in-office/on-site presence. This is not a remote or hybrid position.

Work Environment:
Indoor and outdoor as required. Frequent sitting, standing, walking and carrying objects up to 25 pounds is required. Prolonged periods of sitting, standing and working on a computer. At times will be working around large construction equipment, must be safety conscience.
