What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Financial Assistance and Associate Director of Admission position at The Brearley School?
The Director of Financial Assistance and Associate Director of Admission is charged with supporting the School’s mission to serve “girls of adventurous intellect” who would benefit from a Brearley education. A key member of a dynamic team of admission professionals, administrators, faculty members and student and parent tour guides, the Director of Financial Assistance and Associate Director of Admission will play an integral role in designing implementation strategies to achieve admission and enrollment management goals as determined by the Director of Enrollment Management and the Strategic Enrollment Committee.
This is a 12-month salaried exempt position that requires occasional evening and weekend work.
Financial Assistance responsibilities:
In 2025-2026, the total salary for this position ranges from $100,000 to $125,000 depending on experience.

Financial Assistance responsibilities:
- Articulate the philosophy and processes of Brearley’s financial assistance program to a wide-range of constituencies
- Review financial assistance applications for both returning and prospective families and distribute grants accordingly
- Collect and manage data related to Brearley’s financial assistance program
- Chair the Financial Assistance Committee
- Manage and administer financial aid funds related to non-tuition expenses including academic support, private music lessons, extracurricular trips, and more
- Work collaboratively with all members of the Business Office including the Student Billing Specialist, the Accounts Payable Analyst, and the Assistant CFO and Controller
- Assist with planning, executing, and leading financial assistance-related events
- Serve as the primary point of contact for current students and parents/guardians when unanticipated financial needs arise
- Manage the School’s third-party financial aid platform
- Manage the financial assistance email account
- Maintain awareness of financial assistance trends through professional development and professional networks
- Represent Brearley at on- and off-campus admission events, in-person or virtually; this includes fairs, outreach visits, presentations, informative webinars, and any event determined by the Director of Enrollment Management to be an important marketing opportunity for the School
- Communicate clearly and professionally with all constituencies associated with The Brearley School
- Assist with planning and executing admission events for all three divisions
- Assist with the data collection and management efforts of the Admission Office
- Conduct admission interviews across all three divisions
- Read admission files and serve as a member of the admission committees
- Assist with responding to phone and email communications from prospective families and managing application materials received in Ravenna
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Enrollment Management
- A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is a preferred
- Three to five years of admission or enrollment management experience including work related to financial aid (i.e. assessing admission and financial aid applications, committee work, overseeing a financial aid program, etc.)
- Elementary or secondary teaching experience is beneficial, but not mandatory
- Experience engaging with a CRM database (e.g. Ravenna, Veracross, or similar systems) or a third-party financial aid platform ( e.g. SSS, Clarity, etc.)
- Fluency in another language is beneficial, but not mandatory
- Professional and engaging verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to modify messaging for the intended audience
- Able to handle confidential information with discretion and to use best judgment when sharing such information
- Intrinsically motivated, collegial, flexible, and able to maintain a sense of humor during the busiest periods of the admission season
