Job Description
Breeden Construction has created their internship program to provide students with an opportunity to converge academics with experience in the construction industry through involvement with processes and activities of the industry thus developing a more experienced student equipped for post graduate employment. We seek to provide students with a foundation for learning and to provide our company with a pool of qualified and experienced candidates to offer full-time employment opportunities during / post education completion.
Our Summer Intern Program is a 9-week program. Interns will spend 3 weeks each doing Pre-Development or Pre-Construction, Project Management, and as a Superintendent (field). This is not a full-time employee position.
During the 3 weeks with our Pre-Dev team our interns will gain a basic understanding of Breeden’s pre-dev process and duties (Pre-Development rotation is specific to the region of Hampton Roads, Pre-construction rotation is specific to the region of Richmond)
During the 3 weeks with our Project Managers our interns will gain a basic understanding of Breeden’s Project Manager workload and duties.
During the 3 weeks with our Superintendents our interns will gain a basic understanding of Breeden’s Superintendent duties.

Through our program our interns will:
- Learn and understand divisions of work (Div 16 format).
- Develop an understanding of reading plans and specifications on the project they are placed.
- Develop effective communications skills to communicate with the subcontractors onsite.
- Learn to effectively write and submit an RFI from a superintendent perspective.
- Learn to effectively review submittals and shop drawings.
- Learn to review the submittal log.
- Learn to spot safety violations onsite and how to communicate with the subcontractors to help them understand the violation and fix it.
- Learn the buyout process and how to level subcontractor bids.
- Learn the difference from when to use a purchase order versus a subcontract versus a service agreement.
- Learn to identify problems before they happen and/or come up with solutions to fix them.
- Learn to manage logistics onsite.
- Learn the ability to identify onsite what you see in the plans.
