The Knitting Equipment Technician plays a critical role within the Maintenance team, focusing on keeping knitting, linking, and sewing machines operating at peak performance. The technician’s primary responsibility is to minimize downtime and meet the operational needs of the plant and department. This includes performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting technical issues, and resolving machine-related concerns. The position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and receives direction from Production Managers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Protocols:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hearing protection, eye protection, and safety shoes.
- Machine Operation:
- Ensure efficient operation of knitting, linking, and sewing machines to meet production requirements.
- Proactive Maintenance:
- Identify potential machine issues early and resolve them before they lead to more significant problems.
- Troubleshoot technical issues, addressing both basic and intermediate problems.
- Diagnose machine malfunctions, determine root causes, and repair or replace components as necessary.
- Repairs & Replacements:
- Perform routine and complex repairs on machines as needed, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Maintain an organized inventory of tools and spare parts, ensuring readiness for repairs.
- Collaboration:
- Work with department personnel to analyze machine issues, develop corrective solutions, and implement changes.
- Recommendations:
- Provide recommendations for equipment, process, or installation improvements based on observations and troubleshooting findings.
- Complex Repairs:
- Independently carry out more advanced repairs and perform preventative maintenance tasks.
- Preventative Maintenance:
- Follow a structured preventative maintenance schedule to ensure machines are well-maintained.
- Equipment Installation & Relocation:
- Assist in the installation of new machines and the relocation of existing equipment.
- Communication:
- Report any machine performance concerns, process deviations, or safety issues to the supervisor for further action.
Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:
- Mechanical Proficiency:
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment maintenance.
- Maintenance Skills:
- Experience performing routine repairs and maintenance on various machines using hand tools and power tools.
- Tool Familiarity:
- Skilled in using power drills, saws, pullers, and other hand tools for machine repairs.
- Basic electrical knowledge is a plus.
- Bilingual Communication:
- Spanish and English proficiency preferred for communication in a bilingual work environment.
- Work Environment Adaptability:
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively with personnel at all levels.
- Decision Making:
- Capable of making decisions independently and contributing positively to team efforts.
Education & Experience:
- Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience:
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in maintenance is required.
- Experience in the textile industry, specifically with knitting and sewing machines, is preferred.
