Purpose

The Wellness Director (non-nurse) plans, organizes, develops, and directs the overall operation of the Resident Care Department to assure resident safety, and attain or maintain the highest practicable quality assisted living services focused on maximizing residents’ individual capabilities in accordance with all laws, regulations and Century Park standards. Reports to the Executive Director.

Working Conditions

  • Weekend supervision responsibilities
  • Attends and participates in continuing education programs
  • Works in department as well as throughout community
  • Subject to frequent interruptions
  • Involved with residents, associates, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions and circumstances
  • Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
  • Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions as needed temporarily
  • Subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday
  • Possible exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and hepatitis B viruses
Education and Experience

  • Must have two (2) years supervisory experience in senior care, or related setting
  • Must have CPR certification upon hire, or obtain during orientation, certification must remain current during employment
  • Must have current First Aid certification (if required by State)
Specific Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, resident care staff, and all other staff, family members, or others
  • Participates in community health matters/projects as appropriate
  • Liaisons with residents, families, support departments, etc. to adequately plan for resident needs
  • Must be able to collect, analyze, and manage data
  • Must have expert knowledge in field of practice
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing administration practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing functions in an assisted living community
  • Must have the ability to implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the resident care department
  • Must perform proficiently in all applicable competency areas
  • Maintains professional working relationships with all associates, vendors, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Must understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures
  • Displays integrity and professionalism by adhering to Century Park’s Code of Ethics and completes all required compliance training
Primary Job Responsibilities

Below is a description of certain key job duties, however, is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all job duties.

Administrative and Planning

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements and evaluates resident care goals.
  • Maintains compliance with budget in labor and expense control.
  • Creates, manages and approves scheduling for Resident Care staff to ensure appropriate staffing levels 24/7
Resident Care Focus

  • Works with Executive Director and/or Assisted Living Director to build relationships with residents and families
  • Completes Resident assessments, develops and implements service plans and communicates these outcomes with resident and/or family member upon admission, and as often as is State-mandated, no less than semi-annually and as needed
  • Conducts incident report follow-up investigation and ensures completion of resident status documentation
  • Prepares for survey readiness and follow-up to ensure Plan of Correction is appropriately and timely completed
  • Develops and monitors quality improvement plan
  • Completes audits and observations to ensure associate compliance with Infection Control and other resident care regulations
  • Ensures documentation of resident clinical status/needs, communicates with physicians and other healthcare professionals
  • Investigates and resolves resident and family concerns and complaints in collaboration with Executive Director
Medication Management Focus

  • Oversees medication program including accuracy of medication assistance records (MARs), providing hands-on medication assistance to residents and monitoring med passes
  • Provides communication and follow-up with provider pharmacy to ensure compliance with resident medication orders
  • Conducts regular audits of medication records, med storage areas, MARs and Narcotic Declining Inventories
Supervisory Requirements

  • Recruits, selects, hires, trains, evaluates, supervises, and counsels resident care team as needed
  • Serves as an effective role model, maintaining an approachable leadership style
Essential Functions

  • Must be able to plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, establish benchmarks, and direct resident care staff
  • Must be able to schedule appropriate levels of Care aides/CNAs, Med Techs, and/or LPNs per shift
  • Must be able to effectively manage and operate with department budget
  • Performs tasks under the direction of an LPN or RN as needed and supervises the LPN and RN staff as applicable.
  • Must exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards residents and staff
  • Must follow company policies including harassment, code of ethics, complaint procedures, safety, sanitation, confidentiality, dress code, open door, and resident rights
  • Must ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents and support residents in times of crisis (i.e. natural disasters, etc.)
  • Must demonstrate dependable, regular attendance
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Must be able to concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment
  • Must be able to communicate and function productively on an interdisciplinary team
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs floor to waist, lift 35 lbs waist to shoulder, lift and carry 35 lbs, and push/pull 35 lbs
