The role of the Billing Specialist is to manage the billing process and assist the Director of Finance and Operations as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help foster and maintain a welcoming, trauma-informed, and safe environment for all clients.
- Understand and utilize the agency’s EHR to electronically process insurance claims and invoices.
- Develop collaborative partnership relationships with insurance care managers.
- Serve as the agency’s primary contact for all insurance claims, assist verifying client payer source and eligibility, submit claims, investigate rejected claims, and Claims follow up.
- Identify trends with denied claims and communicate to the leadership team.
- Assist with client billing.
- Answer client account questions.
- Compile and maintain current data (NPI, CAQH, Paneling) for all staff qualified by license or certification.
- Track license and certification expirations in BambooHR and ensure timely renewals.
- Compile and maintain provider and agency credentialing and re-credentialing applications. Monitor applications and follow up as needed.
- Aids in obtaining authorization.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Finance and Operations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is not responsible for any immediate supervision of employees.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- Two years of experience in data entry, medical billing, manage care companies, accounting, or equivalent experience.
- Eligible to work in the United States.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of medical and behavioral health terminology, physiology, concepts of disease and treatment methodologies.
- Experience working with insurance companies and other payer sources.
- Experience in medical coding/billing.
- Organized and able to meet deadlines consistently.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work with and relate to persons of multiple ethnic, racial, cultural and varied economic backgrounds.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Credible EHR knowledge
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) and/or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) certifications
