What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct of Community and Family Ministries position at The Bridge United Methodist Church?
Responsibilities:
Administration (Approx. 10 percent of job)
- Meet monthly with the lead pastor to coordinate the ministries and mission of the church. Coordinate meeting space as it relates to specific ministry needs.
- Maintain the budget for children, youth, and family outreach ministries.
- Assist in Sunday morning worship as requested.
- Other duties as assigned by the lead pastor or SPRC.
Children’s Ministries (Approx. 30 percent of job)
- Cast a vision for the children’s ministry. Lead a team to support this vision.
- Schedule, plan, and direct children’s Sunday School and Faith Builder ministries. Recruit and train volunteers for these and other appropriate programs.
- Maintain Safe Sanctuary program for all children’s ministries volunteers.
- Evaluate, purchase, and/or prepare curriculums for all children’s ministries.
- Communicate schedules and programming with parents.
- Lead, with the pastor, at least two workshops annually focused on baptism, first communion, presentation of Bibles, confirmation and other age-related ministries.
Youth Ministries (Approx. 30 percent of job)
1. Cast a vision for youth ministry. Lead a team to support this vision.
2. Schedule monthly activities (it is anticipated that this will include at least one fellowship/fun activity and one small group meeting). This includes youth Sunday School.
3. Recruit, train and support youth ministry volunteers, and maintain Safe Sanctuary guidelines.
4. Relate to and support youth, which could include meetings with youth and their families, crisis support, and support of youth activities in the community.
5. Schedule and lead a mission trip each summer.
6. Coordinate youth involvement in worship services.
7. Co-lead confirmation classes with the lead pastor.
8. Schedule and lead at least four intergenerational events annually.
9. Connect with other youth leaders in the community, including school administrators, social workers, and other appropriate leaders.
Community Ministries (Approx. 30 percent of the job)
- Meet with the Missions Team and support their outreach, particularly as it impacts children, youth, and family in the community.
- Serve for The Bridge UMC through Branches of Washington and other ministries connecting to children, youth, and family in the community.
- Connect with social service leaders and community leaders. Work on building relationships with families, children, and youth in the community.
- Serve as a point of contact in the community for families, children, and youth seeking support with housing, finances, or social needs.
