What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Associate - EWSC position at The Broad Institute, Inc.?

Job Description The Eric and Wendy Schmidt Center at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is seeking exceptional postdoctoral associates to join this endowed center. The Schmidt Center’s mission is to create the theoretical, computational and algorithmic paradigms that will enable us to understand the programs of life and how they connect across scales, from proteins to cells to tissues and organisms. The Schmidt Center is located within the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard - a world-leading non-profit research organization dedicated to better understanding the roots of disease and narrowing the gap between new biological insights and impact for patients in an interdisciplinary manner. The position: We welcome outstanding applicants with research interests in any area of machine learning, statistics, or applied mathematics that could drive the frontier of biomedical research. The role will be focused on the development of novel computational and algorithmic methods, with a strong bent towards developing the mathematical foundations of which algorithms are most suitable to biological applications and why. While experience in machine learning or related fields is critical for the role, prior exposure to biology or medicine is advantageous but not required. Postdoctoral associates independently choose their (computational and biomedical) mentors from Broad-, MIT-, or Harvard-affiliated faculty. Completed application review will begin on a rolling basis after December 20, 2023. This will be a one-year appointment beginning on or after July 1, 2024, or an earlier/later mutually agreed upon date, with the possibility of renewal for a second and third year based upon satisfactory performance. Qualifications and Requirements: Ph.D. (expected or obtained) in Computer Science, Engineering, (Bio)Statistics, or a related field Strong analytical and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively describe scientific material to both specialized and lay audiences. Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment and commitment to participating in Schmidt Center activities For full consideration, candidates must submit the following documents through Academic Jobs Online (https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/26632): CV and a cover letter, which may include potential avenues of collaboration and supervision by Broad-, MIT- or Harvard-affiliated faculty A research statement of up to three pages, including references (this can be focused on research thus far, and need not be biomedical in nature) Names and email addresses of three or more individuals who will provide letters of recommendation Questions: please contact ewsc-postdocs@broadinstitute.org All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
