Position Description
Browning is searching for a full-time Upper School English Teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. The position will begin on or around August 20, 2025. The expected annual salary range for this position is $70,000-130,000, commensurate with experience. A bachelor’s degree or considerable experience in the role is required. An advanced degree in a related field is preferred. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
Key Responsibilities
Upper School English teachers are responsible for co-creating an experience that teaches the skills of being a reader, writer, and thinker. Teachers weave a story of reading and writing that demonstrates that both are active ways of thinking and of making sense of the world. All Browning teachers are responsible for building strong relationships with students and delivering the content and curriculum of the Browning program. Successful teachers believe in and desire the growth of all their students and have a passion for their subject matter and for the art, craft, and science of pedagogy. Ultimately, teachers are responsible for the most important work of our School -- knowing our boys and teaching them well.

Among Other Things, They Are Tasked With
- Teaching a full course load (equivalent to four full-time sections) of English in Grades Nine to Twelve
- Advising a group of students in the Upper School
- Developing and implementing an inspiring curriculum in conjunction with department members
- Using Browning’s Target-Focused Teaching and executive functioning methods to ensure student growth and alignment
- Creating strong relationships with students built on Browning’s core values of honesty, dignity, curiosity, and purpose
- Collaborating as a professional, collegial, and inspirational member of the department
- Participating in professional development to grow the self, department, and school
- Communicating with families about curricular and student matters
- Implementing supervisory duties as assigned, such as lunch or study hall coverage
- Heartily contributing to the school community
