We are currently seeking a Plant Nursery Crew Leader with experience working in a Plant Nursery or Horticulture industry experience to lead our Nursery team. Responsibilities and Duties
The Plant Nursery Crew Leader plays a crucial role in our nursery growing operation. The Crew Leader is responsible for assisting the Nursery Supervisor with daily task assignments of the nursery team, as well as assisting the Nursery Supervisor with mentoring, staff development, delegation of tasks, and project management.
Leads staff on the Nursery team with daily tasks performed in the operation of nursery production under the direction of the Nursery Supervisor.Performs pruning, digging, planting, and weeding and trains staff in proper technique and timing of such activities.Utilizes horticulture knowledge to make suggestions regarding tasks and process improvement.In collaboration with the Nursery Supervisor, mentors nursery staff, expanding their horticulture knowledge and understanding.Partners with the Nursery Supervisor to facilitate the spray program for the production of nursery stock.Under the direction of the Nursery Supervisor, tags plants for tree spade / wholesale nursery orders.Helps scouting of nursery stock for pests or pathogens and coordinates treatment strategies.Operates equipment including trucks, tractors, sprayers, tree spades, and skid steer loaders as needed.May assist Nursery Supervisor with tracking of hours of equipment and maintenance needed.May assist with inventory counts and updating records of field stock.Stay current on new insects, diseases, technology, and techniques applied to nursery production as applicable.Assist with snow removal during the winter months as business needs dictate.May assist the Dock Supervisor with tasks or workflow at the Dock as needed.Follows company safety policies and procedures at all times.Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work is primarily performed outdoors during all seasons.Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including inclement weather (rain, snow, heat or cold).Work is often performed on uneven ground conditions (mud, snow, rocks, etc)The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection is required for duties such as equipment operation that expose the individual to elevated noise levels.The duties of this position expose the individual to chemicals and fertilizers.Schedule
This is a full-time Seasonal position.Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 6 : 30 am to 5 : 00 pm (40-55 hours per week) during our peak season (approximately April to November). Saturday hours as needed.Hours vary in winter months (approximately December through March) based on snow removal.Overtime may be required as workload dictatesSkills You Would Need
Previous experience working in a nursery or Horticulture experience.A minimum of 3 years of direct leadership experience preferred.Previous experience and knowledge of pruning or willingness to learn.Previous equipment operating experience (loader, bobcat, tractor or other used in nursery production) is required.A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is requiredAbility to communicate in English; bilingual with ability to communicate in Spanish is helpful but not required.Pesticide Applicator license upon hire or obtained within 3 months; and maintained throughout employment.Knowledge of different types of plant material.Benefits
