PAY RATE: $22
HOURS & DAYS: M-F , 8-5PM
LOCATION: HAMPTON, VA

OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE
The Carpenter possesses a variety of skills encompassing most of the construction trades; assisting other skilled trades; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at job site. This individual possess the ability to deal tactfully, effectively and courteously with co-workers, management and our customers.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS
Conduct regular building tours and inspections, addressing needs and coordinating corrective actions with management and contractors.
Measure and calculate materials needed for projects.
Lay out and install flooring, roofing, and drywall, ensuring proper alignment.
Read blueprints and assess work requirements.
Prepare work areas, including scaffolding and protecting fixtures.
Prepare walls for painting and fill holes, cracks, and joints.
Use tools for repairs and construction, such as chisels, saws, drills, and sanders.
Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of materials and labor.
Manage tool and equipment inventory, assist with control processes.
Assemble and secure materials for frameworks and props.
Build and repair cabinets, doors, and fixtures using woodworking tools.
Inspect structures for damage, such as tiles, walls, and woodwork.
Work on rotating schedules, including nights and weekends, for emergency needs.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of apprenticeship.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid drivers license.
EXPERIENCE: Requires two to four years’ residential or commercial carpentry experience.
SKILLS: Conscientious with great attention to detail. Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders, etc. Excellent customer service skills with desire to exceed customer expectations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with arms and hands. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must lift / move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. The noise level is usually moderate.
