OBJECTIVE / PURPOSE
The HVAC Technician I is responsible for providing HVAC services with specific responsibility of repair and / or identifying equipment replacement needs; in installing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading HVAC systems and equipment; assisting other skilled trades and ensuring that tools and materials are available at the job site.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS
Install, maintain and repair heating, ventilation, and cooling units. Diagnose and repair of electronic, mechanical and electrical components of these systems.
Conduct regular building tours, inspections, identifying needs and executing corrective action and/or coordinating with management and outside contractors.
Performing preventive maintenance on equipment
Possess the ability to be able to work independently and as a team member
Workdays and schedules are generally routine, however are subject to change. Be prepared/available to work nights or weekends, on a rotating basis, to service emergency needs of our customers.
Maintain good working order of company vehicle including refueling as necessary, reporting any mechanical issues, and filling out and submitting monthly vehicle inspection form.
Following all safety requirements including Lockout/Tagout and use of appropriate PPE
Maintain proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment in the vehicle.
Keeping appropriate records, including the Refrigerant Inventory and Usage Report
Document all installed equipment: make, model, serial number, type of fuel, necessary test measurements, and pictures as necessary.
Diagnose diverse service issues, obtain any replacement parts, calibrate system to manufacturer’s recommendations, and explain fully to management what the issue is and what is needed to correct.
Participate in company provided training opportunities on latest industry technologies.
Identify and report to management potential opportunities for additional business (newer system, service contracts, and additional services).
Requires flexibility and understanding that all maintenance staff may be required to perform duties outside their normal area of expertise to meet the mission and goals of the Facility Services Department.
OT may be required without notice to complete work assigned – time off may be offered or required within the same pay period to meet budget demands.
Receive and complete work orders while maintaining accurate records on material and labor.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. (Certificate degree or two-year degree from a trade school or community college in heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration preferred.)
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: CFC certification (Universal or Type II).
1-3 Years Prior Experience in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting HVAC service issues.
Good analytical skills and attention to detail with ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams and manufacturer’s installation manuals. Excellent customer service skills with desire to exceed customer expectations.
Must be able to pass background check and drug screen
Valid Driver’s License – Must have a clean MVR
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with arms and hands. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to lift / move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
