Spring 2025 Varsity Track and Field Assistant Coach (Seattle, WA)
Stipend, Term-Limited, Temporary Position

The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Athletic Department as the Varsity Track and Field Assistant Coach. We are seeking a candidate who is able to support the school’s goals towards building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community. The Bush School athletic program works within the rules of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and the Emerald Sound Conference to provide athletic opportunities and competition for students of all gender identities. While most sports are offered separately for boys and girls, the Athletic Department staff is committed to working collaboratively with each participant to determine options that best suit each student-athlete’s journey.
The Varsity Track Assistant Coach will assist with planning and executing team practices, coaching all scheduled meets, overseeing inventory of sports equipment and uniforms, and driving the team to away games/practice sites on a school vehicle. This position reports directly to the Athletic Director.
The season begins on Monday, March 3, 2025, and continues until May 2025. Practices take place on Mondays through Fridays at The Bush School, or Cleveland’s High School Track, from 3:45pm to 6:00pm; however, no longer than two hours on a given day. Meets are typically played on weekday afternoons, and occasionally on Saturdays. Coaches meet the players at Bush, travel to the practice/contest site together, and drop the athletes back at school at the end of each day.
While other duties may be assigned, qualified candidates will be able to manage the following key responsibilities and tasks:
- Provide positive, inclusive, safe, and challenging experience for participants
- Assist with:

- Identifying, developing, and applying age and developmentally appropriate coaching methods
- Developing and implement practice plans and routines
- Communicating team and program related information to assistant coaches, athletes and parents/guardians effectively and promptly
- Communicate with athletic department staff effectively and promptly
- Attend meetings and trainings scheduled by the Athletic Director
- Comply with all school, and league policies and regulations
Successful candidates will have:
- Expert knowledge of given sport
- Coaching experience and certification preferred
- Capacity and desire to seek out and participate in ongoing professional development
- Ability and willingness to be a team player
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Satisfactory criminal background check that meets school standards
- Safe driving record that meets school standards
- Ability to work and connect with people
- Enthusiasm to contribute, grow, and develop as a member of the Blazers Athletic
Department Team
- Outstanding communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications
Additional Requirements:
- Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
- Safesport Certification
- Meet the school’s standards when completing two separate background screenings
Compensation/Benefit Information for this position:
- Stipend range for this temporary, term-limited position: $4,044.00
- Note: stipend amount reflects the total stipend when coach attends all team events
- Additional compensation available for coaches who drive their teams to off-site practices/games.
