Temporary, Long-term Upper School French Substitute Faculty (Seattle, WA)
Full Time (1.0 FTE) Salary/Exempt
March 6, 2025 – Thursday, April 24, 2025

The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Upper School team as a Long-term Upper School French Substitute Faculty member. We are seeking a candidate who is able to support the school’s mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of intercultural fluency. The Long-term Upper School French Substitute Faculty member reports to the Upper School Director and works closely with students and families, as well as Upper School Faculty and Staff, while also being an active member of the school’s World Language Department. This position will be responsible for teaching four sections of French, including one section of French II, two sections of French III, and one section of French: Advanced Studies.
While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:
- Create and sustain a positive classroom culture, based on the mission and values of the school
- Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences and support a proficiency approach to language instruction
- Possess the ability and skills to successfully teach French II, III, and Advanced Studies.
- Value and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily interactions and within the curriculum
- Establish classroom expectations that creates a safe and comfortable environment for all students
- Implement a proficiency-oriented interdisciplinary, multicultural, experiential curriculum
- Collaborate and work effectively with the school’s World Languages Department
- Create and sustain effective family partnerships, for example: communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom news via emails, conferences, and grades
- Observe/evaluate/assess students’ development and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growth.
- Participate actively and with curiosity in school/division/department/committee meetings on Wednesdays until 5:15 pm, as well as student community gatherings during the school day
Utilize technology to support student success (e.g. Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, learning management systems, etc.)
Experience and Professional Competencies:
- Experience teaching French is required, with 3 or more years preferred
- Experience teaching French to Upper School students is preferred
- A bachelor’s degree in French, teaching with a French focus or related field is required
- Demonstrated excellence as a French educator, with a passion for sharing that with Upper School students is required
- A demonstrated commitment to professional development and growth in this area is required

Additional Requirements:
- Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
- Meet the school’s standards when completing two separate background screenings
Compensation/Benefit Information for this position:
- Salary Range: $5,684 - $10,282
- Faculty employees with a Master’s degree, PhD and/or National Certification may be eligible for additional compensation
