Job Title: Assistant Digital Press Operator
Reports To: Printing Supervisor
Position Overview:
Performs manual and machine operator tasks related to the set-up, maintenance and operations of a flexographic digital press and other related duties as directed by the press operator, Printing Department Manager and Supervisors.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Understands printing job requirements by studying job specifications; assessing requirements for flexography digital, organizing job schedule sequence while retrieving required paperboard rolls for upcoming jobs.
- Sets-up printing presses by loading rolls with roll cart and adjusting for size.
- Assist operator with make ready and sleeve change functions.
- Assist operator with automatic register controls.
- Assist operator with die change duties.
- Responsible for ink change during the copy change
- Maintain ink viscosity, PH, measure DE, density, color match approved art, and ensure all inks are managed
- Maintains production and quality by inspecting production samples, board caliper on every roll.
- Ensure that ALL ISO 9001:2000 Procedures, Work Instructions, 6-S, and QPOC’s are followed
- Minimize downtime, trouble shooting stoppages and breakdowns; calling for Maintenance assistance. Ensure consistent Printing Machine operation by completing preventative maintenance as required
- Shuts-down printing presses by removing ink and changing paper; cleaning parts and components; returning ink to stock
- Ensure all necessary supplies are ready prior to running a specific job
- Remove printed cartons from press to build and tag WIP loads
- Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership and responsibility for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Job Specifications:
- Ability to Make-Ready roll stand to job specific roll sizes.
- Ability to use hand truck to move WIP loads
- Ability to log roll specific numbers to job specific factory order numbers.
- Ability to make-ready printing plates to job specific art numbers.
- Ability to make-ready ink stations to job specific ink numbers.
- Ability to safely disassemble and reassemble chamber blades.
- Ability to assist make-ready press within established MR standard allowance
- Ability to identify and correct printing quality issues
Education / Experience:
High School diploma or GED equivalent is preferred but not required. Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Communication Skills / Requirements:
Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with management, peers and other employees. Have active listening skills, attention to detail and follow-through. Must demonstrate tact, professionalism, teamwork, flexibility, an organized approach to work and a positive attitude.
HAZARDS / PPE: Safety glasses, ear protection, safety knife and cut gloves.
MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT: Digital Press 2, 7 flexographic narrow web & 4 color digital, roll cart, hand truck and core splitter, safety knife, basic hand tools.
