Job Description
Job Title: Petting Pen Attendant
Department: Animals Services
Reports To: Area Supervisor and Curator of Mammals
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Duties/Responsibilities: include the following but others may be assigned.
- Daily observation of animals and facilities.
- Cleans and disinfects petting pen enclosures and all equipment and tools associated with maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for the animals to live in on a daily basis.
- Monitors hand wash station, keep clean and hand soap stocked.
- Keep animal records as assigned.
- Feed and monitor animals, administer prescribed medications.
- Responds to visitors’ questions by courteously answering questions about the animals and zoo operations and enforces the safety rules for animals and the public.
- Maintains safe working habits and conditions.
Job Qualifications:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Preferred related experience working with animals and children.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions.
- Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear and taste or smell. Employee must e capable of moving quickly and good hearing and vision are necessary for safely performing the duties of this job. Employees are occasionally required to stack hay bales weighing in excess of 75 pounds.
Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat, and dangerous animals. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. In some cases employees are exposed to foul odors and/or dust.

Schedule:
- 32 hours a week
- Flexible schedule, position is 7 days a week.
- 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
