The Cambridge School of Weston seeks an English teacher for an interim parental-leave replacement starting August 18, 2025. The English teacher will be a member of the English department and report directly to the English Department Chair. The position requires general knowledge of American and world literature, as well as experience teaching literary critical writing. Familiarity with or subject-area expertise in graphic novels and poetry are helpful but not required.
A successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills; will value progressive, student-centered education; will demonstrate an ability to make strong connections with students; will be passionate about teaching creative students with a variety of learning styles in a boarding and day school environment; and will have experience in differentiating and working in multiple modalities. Applicants should be well-versed in culturally responsive teaching practices and be interested in further developing their cultural competencies and equity literacy skills. In addition to these qualifications, our ideal candidate values collaboration among colleagues in our vibrant, art-infused school.

Essential Functions Of This Position Include
- Teach four blocks in the English Department. Each “block” is a six-week course that meets for 90 minutes daily from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. In our six-module calendar year, this represents one teaching block per module for the first four modules.
- The teacher must be able to instruct students in a range of English courses in a clear, concise, and engaging way. Courses taught may include “Advanced Writing Portfolio” (a required 11th-grade creative nonfiction writing course), “Graphic Novels,” and “World Poetry.”
- Plan, develop, and execute lessons that showcase innovation, creativity, and a passion for the art of teaching while also utilizing distinctive instructional approaches that best serve the students’ long-term interests.
- Evaluate each student’s ability to meet course standards in reading, writing, and other course skills. Document and communicate progress to students, advisors, and guardians regarding academic progress.
- Participate in weekly departmental meetings prepared to discuss student concerns, teaching pedagogy, and curriculum developments. The candidate may also be asked to assist with departmental representation at school outreach events.
- Demonstrate a willingness and interest to learn and share new pedagogical techniques and develop specific curricular expertise.
- Maintain 30 minutes of daily availability outside of class time for drop-in office hours (in person or via Zoom).
- Bachelor of Arts or equivalent required; Master’s degree in English preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to strong collaboration across and within departments.
