Position Overview
The Volunteer Coordinator is a vital member of the CASA program team, responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and supporting volunteer advocates who serve children in foster care. This position plays a key role in ensuring that every child in the program has a dedicated advocate to represent their best interests in court and within the child welfare system.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment and Retention
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit diverse, dedicated, and qualified volunteers.
- Build relationships with community organizations, businesses, and educational institutions to promote volunteer opportunities.
- Organize and participate in outreach events, information sessions, and presentations to attract volunteers.
Volunteer Training and Support
- Coordinate and deliver pre-service and in-service training for new and current volunteers.
- Facilitate ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance volunteers’ skills and knowledge.
- Provide one-on-one support, coaching, and supervision to ensure volunteers feel confident and supported in their roles.
- Maintain regular communication with volunteers to monitor their well-being and satisfaction.
Case Management and Advocacy Oversight
- Assign volunteers to cases in collaboration with program staff, ensuring a good match based on skills and experience.
- Oversee and guide volunteers in their casework, including report preparation, court attendance, and communication with key stakeholders (e.g., social workers, attorneys, foster parents).
- Review volunteer reports and ensure the timely submission of required documentation.
Program Administration
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on volunteers and case assignments in the program’s database.
- Collaborate with program staff to monitor case outcomes and ensure alignment with program goals.
- Assist in evaluating program effectiveness and identifying areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and national CASA standards.
Community Engagement
- Serve as a representative of the CASA program at community events and meetings.
- Advocate for the CASA program’s mission and the needs of children in foster care.
- Cultivate relationships with community partners to enhance program visibility and support.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Some college or experience in social work preferred.
- Experience in volunteer management, supervision, or advocacy work.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Passion for advocating for children and families involved in the child welfare system.
Preferred
- Knowledge of the foster care and child welfare systems.
- Experience with court-appointed special advocate programs or similar organizations.
- Bilingual skills (preferred but not required).
Additional Information
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Flexibility to attend evening and weekend events as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
- Must be able to travel to other counties as needed (Reimbursed mileage).
