Position Summary
The AML Manager with assist his/her supervisor with the day-to-day administration of Carlyle’s investor AML/KYC diligence and monitoring program. The candidate is expected to become the subject matter expert with respect to Carlyle’s AML/KYC policies, procedures, and practices. Among other things, key activities include (i) reviewing documents required for investor identity validation; (ii) conducting database screening searches and reviewing and escalating any search results generated from such screening, (iii) completing the related documentation and data entry required in accordance with Carlyle’s AML policies and procedures, (iv) assisting with testing and the periodic refresh of investor files, (v) conducting training regarding AML/KYC matters, and (vi) responding to third-party AML/KYC questionnaires or inquiries and assisting with AML/KYC regulatory filings required by local regulators.
Additionally, the AML Manager supervises and acts as a point of contact with respect to Carlyle’s AML/KYC outsourcing arrangement with any applicable third-party vendors. He/she will also play a critical role in any new firm-wide initiatives relating to investor onboarding or update to AML/KYC policies and processes. The ideal candidate must be able to prioritize multiple tasks, work with a team and work in a deadline-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
75% of time:
- Administer Carlyle’s global AML/KYC processes, including by coordinating with relevant internal stakeholders and service providers supporting such processes.
- Review and analyze investor KYC documents during the investment lifecycle (including at onboarding and on an ongoing basis) and maintain relevant books and records.
- Conduct database screening searches and review and escalate any search results generated from such screening.
- Lead testing efforts with respect to third-party delegates, nominees, and intermediaries.
- Conduct training regarding AML/KYC matters.
15% of time:
- Respond to third-party questionnaires related to Carlyle’s AML/KYC program, including sanctions program.
- Assist other Carlyle U.S. and non-U.S. AML officers with various tasks, such as due diligence questionnaires, KPIs, regulatory reporting, responding to audit and regulator inquiries, etc.
10% of time:
- Maintain applicable policy documentation under the supervision of senior members of Compliance
- Assist with compliance-related IT projects and firm-wide initiatives, primarily related to enhancing anti-money laundering processes.
- Monitor regulatory developments related to AML/KYC and other regulations
- Develop and implement knowledge management best practices; and
- Other duties as needed and assigned by senior members of Legal & Compliance.
Qualifications
Education & Certificates
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- CAMS certification desired but not required
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant AML/KYC experience required, preferably with financial services firms in the alternative investment space.
- Knowledge of corporate and fund structures is preferred.
- Strong project management and personnel skills and ability to multi‐task and work across multiple groups in demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Service-oriented: ability to balance regulatory and policy standards along with a business perspective
- Superior work ethic, strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written

Benefits/Compensation
The compensation range for this role is specific to Washington, DC and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to the skill sets required/preferred; prior experience and training; licenses and/or certifications.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $120,000 to $135,000.

Additionally, the hired professional may also be eligible to participate in an annual discretionary incentive program, the award of which will be dependent on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
