What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Preschool Teacher - Afternoon position at The Carpenters Shop Christian Preschool?
We are looking for passionate people to hire as preschool teachers to assist our lead teachers in the afternoons. The age groups we are hiring for are infants, toddlers, twos, and threes. The shift is Monday-Friday 12pm-6pm. You will teach our students important elements that they will encounter soon after they enter school life. Our preschool teachers must have a great love and patience for children. Qualifications needed to teach our students effectively include knowledge of best practices and preschool educational methods as well as the ability to engage them and earn their trust and attention. You must be willing to get your hands dirty and be creative in allowing students to grow and learn in a fun and interactive way. You must also be able to complete basic care tasks such as diaper changing/aiding in potty training, preparing and serving food during lunch and snack times, and communicating effectively with parents about their child’s daily progress. Cleaning your classroom at the end of the day is required for afternoon staff. Being able to promote a safe work environment and maintain healthy coworker relationships is a must. The main goal of these requirements is to contribute to the healthy mental and emotional development of our students so they can more easily acclimate in the eventual next level of education. Our afternoon shift is Monday-Friday 12pm-6pm. Must be willing to change diapers, assist with potty training, & other basic hygiene tasks that comes along with the childcare field.
Responsibilities
- Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, music and movement, etc.) to teach children
- Observe each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem
- Encourage children to interact with each other and resolve occasional arguments
- Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum (identify shapes, numbers or colors, letters, do arts and crafts, etc.)
- Maintain nap and snack hours and supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times
- Track children’s progress and report to parents
- Communicate with parents regularly via the bright wheel app (age two’s and under) and classroom facebook pages
- Collaborate with other coworkers
- Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
- Attempt to find a sub off the provided sub list if you have to call out for any reason
Skills
- Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods
- Previous experience a plus but not a requirement
- Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
- Excellent communication and instructional skills
- Ability to act as mediator between children
- Cool-tempered, friendly and reliable
- Balance between a creative mind and a practical acumen
- Certification in child CPR (if you don’t have this we will help you receive it)

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
