Position Summary:
The Assistant Division Head of the Lower School reports to the Lower School Division Head and is essential to the success of the Lower School – supporting students, educators, and families. The ideal candidate is collaborative and self-directed, child-centered, and values a community of highly engaged, compassionate, and motivated educators. This candidate must also have a genuine passion for teaching and learning, coaching, and data-informed progress monitoring.
Qualifications:
- Experience educating children with language-based learning differences, including dyslexia
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including giving/receiving feedback
- Expertise with curriculum mapping and using data to inspire instruction
- Experience with coaching and evaluation of educators
- Well-developed executive function skills
- Minimum of six years in an education environment
- Skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum for students with dyslexia
- Background in assessment and progress monitoring with a strong ability to use data to coach teachers, create student action plans, and communicate with families
- Demonstrates flexibility and solutions-oriented thinking
- Skills in managing complexity
- Applies an asset-based lens to the work
- Lead in close partnership with the Lower School Division Head
- Create a cohesive culture among academic departments
- Serve as a collaborative member of the Division’s and School’s Academic Leadership Team
- Oversee academic programming in the Lower School
- Manage intricate logistics of student schedules
- Build student action plans
- Work with educators to “give each child what they most need”
- Teach a course section in an area of expertise
- Lead and build school-wide professional development opportunities
- Serve as a coach and mentor to educators
- Maintain educators’ growth plans in conjunction with department heads
- Partner with families to ensure success for their children
- Ensure high levels of family care by meeting and communicating with families regularly
- Provide guidance to families, including visits, conferences, and data meetings
