We operate 60 before-school, after-school, and summer programs in K-12 public schools across Norwalk, Side by Side Charter School, the Classical Studies Magnet Academy in Bridgeport, Naugatuck High School, Stamford High School, and the Carver Community Center.
Position Overview
The Carver is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a mission-driven professional who is passionate about financial management and efficiency. The Bookkeeper will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, streamlining workflows, and supporting a dynamic team.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accounts receivable records, ensuring invoices, credits, and aging reports are up to date.
- Process monthly adjustments for financial aid and student discounts.
- Prepare monthly reports on outstanding balances and follow up on aged receivables.
- Manage cash receipts and process deposits for program fees.
- Assist with month-end closing procedures.
- Support the Accounting Manager with accounts payable, including processing vendor invoices and preparing checks.
- Serve as a backup for the bi-weekly payroll process.
- Provide recommendations to improve financial procedures and efficiency.
- Collaborate with the accounting and finance team on various tasks.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- 2-3 years of bookkeeping or related experience (nonprofit experience preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management.
- Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience with Blackbaud or similar accounting software.
- Strong math and research skills.
