Reports to: Middle School Principal
Summary: The Assistant Principal for Student Life is directly responsible to the Middle School Principal and assists in the daily operation and fulfillment of the strategic direction of the school's student life programming, development, and progress.
Key Qualifications:
1. Advanced degree in an education-related field
2. A minimum of five years of instructional experience at the middle school level (grades 5 through 8)
Preferred Qualifications
1. Enthusiastic practicing Catholic who is a Christ-centered servant leader who embraces, models, and champions Catholic education and will also be eager to learn, embody, and promote the charism of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.
2. At least three years of administrative leadership experience in a private and/or Catholic school
3. Experience with Responsive Classroom and/or other contemporary, middle-level approaches to teaching and school discipline
Classification: 12 months, exempt position.
Responsibilities:
The candidate must possess the skills and ability to provide the leadership necessary to guide a student-centered experience for middle school students in support of a robust and rigorous academic and faith-life program. The Assistant Principal for Student Life provides the necessary safety infrastructure that monitors student attendance, discipline, counseling services, and health. This member of the middle school team will participate in working with the feedback, goal-setting, and evaluation of the instructional and student support team, as it relates to meeting curricular targets and measures for efficacy. Along with other members of the schools administrative team, this instructional leader will work to develop faculty and staff, design policies and procedures, use data to drive continuous school improvement, drive student program innovation that compliments the academic program, and engage the broader community in marketing and recruitment efforts by showcasing the broad spectrum of student opportunities at Academy of the Holy Names.
Duties:
1. Promotes the essential characteristics and fundamental values of a Catholic school in the spirit of the SNJM Sisters. Advances a spirit conducive to prayer and study across the school community.
2. Provides personal and visible leadership to all members of the learning community and seeks continuous school improvement in a student-centric environment as it relates to the academic program.
3. Determine, in consultation with the Principal, policies and guidelines for the student experience, include infusion of mission-centered policies that support the schools code of conduct.
4. Develop a clear and concise communication cadence for all elements of the student experience that must be shared with students, families and outside stakeholders. This will include an expectation for clear parent communication and conduct.
5. Oversee space utilization and direct all tasks as relevant to the appropriate Middle School administrative support personnel.
6. Coordinate any facilities rentals through the Middle School Administrative Assistant and any other affected areas of the school operation.
7. Coordinate bus transportation for school activities.
8. Prepare and distribute student and faculty ID cards and work with administrative assistants to redistribute lost IDs.
9. Supervise the recording of student attendance and tardiness. Notify parents with clear action steps with regard to students with problematic attendance and late records.
10. Enforce the student code of conduct fairly and evenly. Create a feedback mechanism to indicate action steps taken for students, instructional staff, and families.
11. Consult the Principal and Middle School Administrative team regarding discipline concerns, school problems, and emergencies.
12. Supervise the assignment of student lockers and coordinate repair and maintenance. Maintain a record of all locker assignments.
13. Establish dialogue with parents, students, and faculty concerning problems of student attendance, lateness and conduct and document accordingly; dismissals must be with the consultation with the President and Principal.
14. Provide all required reporting on health, safety, discipline, and attendance as needed.
15. Work closely with Personal Counseling Services and help in scheduling programming of benefit to the student experience.
16. Serve as the administrative representative at all student concern meetings.
17. Monitor the activities & club programs. Develop programming for community times.
18. Work in close coordination with the Athletic Program.
19. Develop a system to implement data-driven continuous program improvement.
20. Participate in the feedback, goal-setting and evaluation of faculty and instructional support staff as directed by the Principal.
21. Assume responsibilities delegated by the Principal.
