The Athletic Director oversees all aspects of a school's athletic program, including administration, coaching, and student-athlete well-being. They are responsible for ensuring compliance with FHSAA rules, managing budgets, and providing leadership for coaches and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administration:
- Oversee and manage the athletic program, including scheduling, facilities, and budgets.
- Develop and implement athletic policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and rules related to interscholastic athletics.
- Coaching and Staff Supervision:
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate coaches and other athletic staff.
- Provide leadership and support to coaches.
- Address any coaching or staff-related issues.
- Student-Athlete Well-being:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
- Verify athlete eligibility and compliance with academic and physical requirements.
- Provide a positive and supportive athletic environment.
- Communication and Community Relations:
- Represent the school's athletic program at conferences and meetings.
- Communicate with parents, students, coaches, and the community.
- Promote the athletic program and its values.
- Budgeting and Finance:
- Develop and manage the athletic program budget.
- Ensure that all financial resources are used responsibly and effectively.
- Scheduling and Logistics:
- Develop and manage athletic schedules, including games, practices, and tournaments.
- Coordinate transportation and lodging for athletic teams.
- Manage athletic facility use and maintenance.
- Risk Management:
- Develop and implement safety protocols for all athletic activities.
- Ensure that all athletic facilities are safe and well-maintained.
- Other:
- Provide guidance and support to student-athletes and parents.
- Facilitate communication between coaches, athletes, parents, and the school administration.
- Stay informed about changes in athletic rules and regulations.
