Employment Opportunity: The Learning Resource Specialist works with the principal, assistant principal, guidance counselors, and classroom teachers to provide programs for students who are experiencing learning difficulties and require individual, specific assistance.

Reports to: High School Principal

Qualifications:  
1. Bachelor’s degree in special education/exceptional student education; Master’s degree preferred.
2. Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Certification (or eligible for certification in Florida).
3. Support the mission and goals of the Sisters of the Holy Names and the initiatives set forth by the AHN Board of Trustees.
4. Previous classroom teaching experience in the general and/or special education setting.

Classification: 10-month, full-time, salaried exempt employee

Responsibilities:
1. Knowledge of a variety of IQ tests and other assessment instruments.
2. Understanding of nationally standardized testing programs and how students qualify for special consideration.
3. Understanding of current research in best teaching practices for varying learners.
4. Strong organizational, administrative, and leadership skills.
5. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
6. Ability to work with a broad spectrum of age groups.
7. Assists in identifying students’ needs through appraisal, consultation with teachers, observations, etc.
8. Administers and interprets standardized tests.
9. Conducts a separate testing session for the annual administering of school-wide standardized tests.
10. Is responsible for determining eligibility for and coordinating all standardized testing procedures for all students who request special accommodations.
11. Coordinates the creation of a plan of action (student support plan) for individual students.
12. Coordinates the designing and implementation of tutorial programs for students with identified learning difficulties.
13. Assists teachers in implementing instructional strategies to meet the needs of individual students with learning difficulties.
14. Provides leadership for teachers in identifying and addressing special student needs.
15. Monitors the implementation of student support plans.
16. Observes students in a classroom setting.
17. Provides teachers and parents with consultant services and resource information regarding specific student needs.
18. Evaluates students’ progress regularly in consultation with teachers.
19. Holds meetings with parents and teachers of students with special learning needs.
20. Communicates regularly with parents and teachers of students with special learning needs.
21. Collaborates with the guidance counselors and administration regarding the total well-being of students with special needs.
22. Assists in the referral process of individual students with possible special learning need to available community agencies, when necessary, and share appropriate information with counselors and teachers.
23. In collaboration with the curriculum specialist and administration develops and implement specialized in-service programs on specific learning needs and other topics associated with special learning needs.
24. Conducts short-term small group, in-class instruction of compensatory techniques, and builds foundational knowledge and skills.
25. Assists individual students with organizational, test-taking, and study skills.
26. Maintains accurate, complete records of any special instructional needs of individual students.
27. Maintains accurate, up-to-date information regarding the available services offered by public and private agencies that assist and remediate students with special learning needs.
28. Participates in professional growth activities at the local, state, and national levels.
29. Perform such tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the principal.
