Purpose of Your Job Position
The primary purpose of your job position is to perform the day-to-day activities of the Dining Service Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator and /or the Dining Services Manager to ensure that the dietary requirements of The Cedars are meet.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Work with the facility’s dietitian as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
Assure that all dietary procedures are followed in accordance with established policies.
Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel as well as with other departments within the facility to assure that food service can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
Take resident orders and submit them to the cook/cooks assistant.
Serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance.
Assist in serving meals as necessary and on a timely basis.
Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures.
Assist in daily and scheduled cleaning duties, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Clean work tables, serving areas, stoves, refrigerators/freezers, etc.
Sweep and mop floors as directed or necessary.
Remove soiled dishes, pots, utensils, etc. to wash area.
Clear dining tables of soiled dishes, utensils, cups, etc.
Wash dirty dishes, pots, utensils, etc. as necessary.
Put away clean dishes, pots, utensils, etc. as necessary.
Carry out garbage and keep work areas clean, dry and free of hazardous equipment, supplies, etc.
Set up meal trays and food carts as necessary.
Prepare food for serving in accordance with sanitary regulations as well as with our established policies and procedures.
Assist in checking diet trays before distribution.
Serve food in dining rooms as instructed.
Make only authorized food substitutions.
Assure that safety regulations are followed at all times.
Follow established Infection Control and Universal Precautions policies and procedures when performing daily tasks.
Assure that the department is maintained in a clean and safe manner by assuring that necessary equipment and supplies are maintained.
Report all hazardous conditions/equipment to the Director of Food Services immediately.
Report all accidents/incidents as established by department policies.
Dispose of food waste in accordance with established policies.
Wear protective clothing and equipment when handling infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.
Assist in food preparation for special meals, parties, etc.
Complete all other duties as assigned.
Staff Development
Participate in on-the-job training, in-service education, and orientation for newly assigned personnel.
Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., to keep abreast of current changes in Dietary field.
Resident Rights
Ensure the resident’s rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property, and civil rights, and maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all pertinent resident care information to assure resident rights are protected according to the Indiana State Board of Health rules and regulations.
Working Conditions
Works in Kitchen and Dining areas as well as throughout the facility.
Works in well-lighted/ventilated area. Atmosphere is warm for cooking.
Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with resident, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and holidays, and on other shifts.
Is subject to sudden temperature changes when entering refrigerator/freezer.
Attends and participates in continuing education programs.
Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the work day.
May rarely be exposed to infectious waste, disease, conditions, etc., including the potential exposure to AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
