The Cedars is looking for a Part-time Weekend Life Enrichment Assistant in our Lunder Memory Care Assisted Living Household to help implement recreational programs for our residents. Activities include all aspects of wellness such as exercise class, intellectual programs, games, arts and crafts, relaxation and spiritual programs, and social events. The Life Enrichment Team at The Cedars assists our memory care residents to develop interpersonal relationships, to socialize effectively, and develop the confidence to participate in group activities. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with older adults, experience working in an assisted living setting and with individuals with dementia.
Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a team to assist in planning, organizing, and implementing a balanced enrichment program for residents with dementia and Alzheimer's disease
- Assists with activities such as exercise, intellectual programs, games, arts and crafts, relaxation and spiritual programs and social events to assist residents to develop interpersonal relationships to socialize effectively and to develop confidence needed to participate in group activities.
- Engage with residents, encouraging, motivating, and escorting them to and from activities
- Seeks opportunities to meet residents’ psycho-social needs through both planned and spontaneous actions.
- Adapt programs to the interests, and cognitive and physical strengths of the residents.
- Connect with residents personally, understanding what they like and need to make sure activities are enjoyable and meaningful.
- Create a warm and inclusive environment where residents can make friends and discover new interests
- Help with visits and assist the staff with serving dinner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Two years working with geriatric or dementia population
- Life Enrichment Certification preferred or willingness to complete a certification within six months of employment.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Possess a genuine passion and interest in working with older adults and individuals with dementia.
