What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional (DSP) position at The Center for Autism Education?
- prepares the room/program at the beginning of the day, including picture schedules, data sheets, and other visual supports as needed.
- utilizes basic behavior principles including visual supports, behavior maps, visual schedules, social stories, and augmentative communication.
- provides assistants with toileting and personal hygiene with all consumers.
- implements 1:1, to 1:4 instruction of curriculum/activities given by the QDDP as well as executes behavior plans as directed by Director of Day Services, Case Manager, or Behavior Specialist.
- · interacts with consumer appropriately and initiates leisure activities throughout the day.
- implements community-based outings as planned throughout each day.
- supervises and maintains the safety of all consumers at all times including continuous supervision of assigned consumers.
- records and dates (day/month/year) all data including behavior data and data for activities as directed by the QDDP.
- performs tasks as directed by the QDDP and the Director of Day Service as necessary.
- completes training as outlined in The Center for Autism Education policy book.
- effectively completes SCM training and uses techniques taught to intervene with a student experiencing crisis.
- effectively able to stoop, bend, lift up to 20 pounds, kneel, sit on the floor, walk a distance of up to one mile at a time, and run at a brisk pace in order to support a consumer who elopes.
