PURPOSE:
The Appliance Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of household and commercial appliances, ensuring they operate efficiently and safely. This role involves diagnosing issues, performing preventive maintenance, and implementing effective repairs to extend the lifespan of appliances and reduce downtime. The Appliance Technician plays a critical role in delivering reliable service to customers by adhering to industry standards, safety protocols, and providing expert advice on appliance care and maintenance.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform Preventive Maintenance
- Conduct regular inspections of household and commercial appliances to identify wear and tear, potential issues, and areas needing maintenance. Check for proper operation and efficiency.
- Clean appliance components, such as filters, coils, and vents, to ensure optimal performance and prevent blockages. Replace worn or outdated parts before they fail.
- Adjust and calibrate appliance settings, including temperature controls, timers, and sensors, to maintain accurate operation and energy efficiency.
- Lubricate moving parts, such as motors and hinges, to reduce friction and wear. Test appliance functionality to ensure all components are working correctly and safely.
- Coordinate with the OPS Center team to enable ordering of requisite items and tools.
- Document maintenance activities and issues, using CMMS to track work orders and generate management reports.
Perform Reactive Maintenance
- Promptly respond to Work Orders regarding malfunctioning appliances to minimize customer disruption and prevent further damage. Use diagnostic tools and techniques to identify the root cause of the issue and implement effective repairs.
- Remove and replace damaged or malfunctioning parts, such as compressors, thermostats, or heating elements, to restore appliances to full working order.
- Reinstall and test appliances after repairs to ensure they are functioning correctly and safely, providing customers with instructions on proper use and maintenance.
- Clearly communicate repair issues, steps taken, and any additional maintenance or replacement recommendations to customers, ensuring they understand the work performed and how to prevent future issues.
- Coordinate with the OPS Center team to enable ordering of requisite items and tools.
- Document maintenance activities and issues, using CMMS to track work orders and generate management reports.
Optimize Efficiency Within the Operations Department
- Keep work areas clean and organized, ensuring tools and materials are stored safely to prevent accidents.
- Monitor inventory levels, track usage, reorder supplies timely, and coordinate with suppliers to prevent downtime.
- Document maintenance activities and issues, using CMMS to track work orders and generate management reports.
Adhere to Safety Standards
- Ensure all work complies with applicable regulations and building codes.
- Regularly review procedures and safety device functionality.
- Attend all training sessions and consistently follow safety protocols, including PPE use and safety checks.
- Report safety questions and violations promptly to management.
Identify and Implement Improvement Opportunities
- Analyze operations for efficiency gains; propose and implement energy-efficient upgrades, optimized maintenance, and new technologies.
- Refine maintenance procedures to boost productivity, reduce downtime, and enhance facility upkeep. Stay updated on industry advancements.
- Communicate significant issues or needed upgrades to management, offering recommendations to ensure facility safety and functionality.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be able to manage heavy objects, stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Proficiency in upkeep, repair, and overall maintenance of residential and commercial appliances.
- Must possess, or be able to obtain, requisite vocational or technical training and certifications
- Must be able to operate in various indoor, outdoor environments and conditions.
- Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license required.
- Must be available for on-call work, as required.
- Must have familiarity with basic Microsoft Office applications and computers.
- Must be able to effectively model and communicate The Center for Discovery’s philosophy, culture and practices.
