PURPOSE:

The Painter is responsible for preparing surfaces and applying paints, stains, and coatings to enhance and protect the appearance and durability of interior and exterior spaces. This role involves selecting appropriate materials, ensuring precise application, and delivering high-quality finishes that meet aesthetic and functional standards. The Painter contributes to the overall value and appeal of buildings and structures by maintaining a clean, safe work environment and adhering to industry best practices and safety regulations.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform Preventive Maintenance

  • Regularly inspect surfaces, walls, and structures for signs of wear, damage, or deterioration. Clean, sand, and prime surfaces to prevent peeling, cracking, or fading of paint and coatings.
  • Use appropriate primers, sealants, and paints to protect surfaces from moisture, rust, and other environmental factors, ensuring the longevity of the finish.
  • Identify and address areas that require minor touch-ups to maintain a consistent, high-quality appearance across all painted surfaces.
  • Coordinate with the OPS Center team to enable ordering of requisite items and tools.
  • Document maintenance activities and issues, using CMMS to track work orders and generate management reports.

Perform Reactive Maintenance

  • Respond promptly to requests for repair or touch-ups of damaged or worn surfaces. This may include fixing cracks, chips, or faded areas by applying matching paints or coatings.
  • Prepare and repaint areas that have been damaged by environmental factors, accidents, or wear and tear, restoring them to their original appearance.
  • Skillfully match and blend paints to existing colors and finishes, ensuring repairs are seamless and consistent with the surrounding areas.
  • Work closely with other maintenance staff to ensure that painting repairs are coordinated with other necessary repairs, such as drywall or structural repairs, for a comprehensive restoration.
  • Coordinate with the OPS Center team to enable ordering of requisite items and tools.
  • Document maintenance activities and issues, using CMMS to track work orders and generate management reports.

Optimize Efficiency Within the Operations Department

  • Regularly clean, repair, and store brushes, rollers, sprayers, and other painting tools to ensure they are in good working condition for future use.
  • Monitor inventory levels, track usage, reorder supplies timely, and coordinate with suppliers to prevent downtime.
  • Document maintenance activities and issues, using CMMS to track work orders and generate management reports.

Adhere to Safety Standards

  • Ensure all work complies with applicable regulations and building codes.
  • Regularly review procedures and safety device functionality.
  • Attend all training sessions and consistently follow safety protocols, including PPE use and safety checks.
  • Report safety questions and violations promptly to management.

Identify and Implement Improvement Opportunities

  • Analyze operations for efficiency gains; propose and implement energy-efficient upgrades, optimized maintenance, and new technologies.
  • Refine maintenance procedures to boost productivity, reduce downtime, and enhance facility upkeep. Stay updated on industry advancements.
  • Communicate significant issues or needed upgrades to management, offering recommendations to ensure facility safety and functionality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to manage heavy objects, stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, requisite vocational or technical training and certifications.
  • Must be able to operate in various indoor, outdoor environments and conditions.
  • Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license required.
  • Must have familiarity with basic Microsoft Office applications and computers.
  • Must be able to effectively model and communicate The Center for Discovery’s philosophy, culture and practices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent walking, standing, bending and/or stooping required.
  • Required to lift equipment or materials of various weights and sizes as needed.
  • Operates agency motor vehicles as required.
  • Occasional heavy (over 25 pounds) lifting of materials/equipment required.
  • Occasional exposure to environmental /equipment noise and odors.
  • Occasional use of computers and other office equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Exposure to various environments and conditions (including but not limited to odors, temperature ranges, and noise levels).
  • Exposure to human elements/excretions.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
