GENERAL SUMMARY
The Peer Specialist Supervisor focuses on a Peer Specialists’ provision of services, including review of cases and activities, skill building, problem resolution, and professional growth. Supervision will also include following organizational policy or other administrative matters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Supervises the work of assigned Peer Services staff, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
· Meet at least weekly with Peer Specialists with an initial certification and non-certified Peers.
· Meet at least once monthly with Peer Specialists with a two-year certification, or more frequently if determined to be necessary or at the request of the Peer Specialist.
· Monitor Peer Specialists’ billable and non-billable time and uphold productivity expectations.
· Complies with and participates in Quality Assurance or Quality Improvement Processes.
· Develops and ensures adherence to all pertinent rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
· Ensures all documentation meets data verification standards and/or contract requirements.
· Performs other related duties as required.
Specific Program Descriptions:
SMART Program – Specialized Multidisciplinary Alternate Response Team, a collaborative program aimed at creating a multidisciplinary mental health response team in partnership with Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), Acadian Ambulance and The Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC). The team consists of licensed mental health professionals, peer support specialists, mental health deputy, and a paramedic. As part of this team, the SMART Certified Peer Support Specialist will use specified triage criteria developed by Bexar County Dispatch team to identify low level 9-1-1 mental health related calls to dispatch the SMART team to respond. The target population are individuals experiencing a mental health crisis that are otherwise non-violent and in need of access to treatment.
NAS Residential Treatment Program – Intensive residential substance abuse treatment program open to pregnant women and mothers of minor children, including those seeking reunification with children in Texas Department of Family and Protective Services custody. Provides trauma-informed and gender-specific treatment targeting mothers who are struggling with an opioid substance use disorder. Services include comprehensive case management assistance in achieving stable recovery and preservation of the consumer’s family.
Providing Opportunities for Wellness, Empowerment & Resilience (POWER) Program – Coordinated Specialty Care services for Bexar County consumers ages 15-30 years who are experiencing First Episode Psychosis. Program provides intensive, wrap-around services by a team of clinicians and peer support specialists.
Primary Care – Comprehensive and coordinated medical care throughout the course of life. From diagnosis and treatment for a broad range of conditions or illnesses to preventive care, onsite Primary Care Clinics offers the following services: routine checkups, health risk assessments, immunizations, screening tests, general health care maintenance, well women exams, and behavioral health consultations.
Project for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) – Serves individuals who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness and have serious mental illnesses with connection to mainstream services.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
· High School diploma or GED equivalency, and,
· A minimum of one (1) year experience training and/or supervising others.
· All education requirements must be met to successfully obtain one of the required licensures/certifications below.
Licenses or Certifications
· Meets licensure requirements for Qualified Credentialed Counselor (QCC), or,
· Meets licensure requirements for the Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA), or,
· Meets the licensure requirements for the Qualified Mental Health Professional – Community Services (QMHP-CS), or,
· Meets the licensure requirements for the Qualified Peer Supervisor (QPS).
· Within 90 days of hire date: Must successfully complete training on Peer Specialist Services and the recovery model from a Certified Training Entity.
· Within 90 days of hire date: Must successfully complete peer supervisor training from a Certified Training Entity.
Other Requirements
· Must maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of the Company’s auto insurance carrier if you drive your vehicle during company business.
· Must maintain required credentials and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all State regulations and CHCS policies.
· Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping and getting on and off the floor without assistance.
· Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) is a proven safe and harm-free method of behavior modification. All consumer-facing employees of CHCS must take NCI courses facilitated by the CHCS Training team within the first 45 days of employment.
· NCI is intended to support human service professionals in giving aggressive, disruptive, or out-of-control people the best care and welfare possible, even in the most violent situation.
· NCI training provides staff with the skills to safely recognize and respond to everyday crisis situations that may involve more challenging behaviors. It focuses on prevention and offers proven strategies for safely defusing anxious, hostile or violent behavior at the earliest possible stage.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Language Proficiency Pay (LPP) payments are subject to successful testing, certification by CHCS Payroll, and availability of funding. Funding may be renewed in subsequent fiscal years but is not guaranteed.
· Previous experience working in a peer services program.
SUPERVISION
· Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees (2 or more full-time employees) including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/ effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed.
